About the role

About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Director of Medicine & Integrated Health, the Medical Stroke Unit Manager is responsible for providing strategic and operational leadership to multi-disciplinary teams within a patient-centered, Collaborative Practice Model for patient care.

Working collaboratively and consultatively with patients/clients, families, management, staff, physicians, community partners, and service providers, the Unit Manager applies strategic and analytical thinking to address challenges to achieve the ultimate goal of high quality, safe, and cost effective services to better support patient experience/outcome.

The Manager exhibits sound professional judgement and initiative while working within the framework and objectives of the Health Services Program and the Mission and Vision and Strategic directions of Nova Scotia Health, and incorporates into daily practice the Core Competencies and Values of Nova Scotia Health.

About You

  • Bachelors' degree in a health related discipline required
  • Minimum 5 years' recent clinical experience in a position included within this portfolio (i.e. Registered Nurse)
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in a leadership and/or management position with responsibilities related to program planning, evaluation, human resource and financial management, within a unionized environment
  • Experience developing and facilitating strategies consistent with the principles of organizational health
  • Demonstrated proficiency in program planning, financial and human resource management, oral and written communication, and interpersonal effectiveness
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, analytical, problem solving, conflict resolution, negotiation, strategic thinking and decision making skills, with the ability to successfully change, adapt, overcome, and cope with unexpected challenges
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain strategic partnerships and collaborative working relationships with a variety of internal and external partner across the healthcare continuum
  • Proficient with computer applications including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, internet, and the ability to utilize health information systems for decision support
  • Demonstrated commitment to employee and self-development and continuous quality improvement
  • Valid Driver’s license and access to reliable transportation
  • Physical and mental capabilities to perform duties of the position such as managing multiple priorities, time-sensitive deadlines, stressful situations, working flexible/extended hours and travelling within and outside of Nova Scotia Health as necessary
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Hours

Permanent, Full-Time (75 hours bi-weekly)

Shifts may include evenings, weekends, and holidays

Compensation and Benefits

$46.36 - $61.60 Hourly

Successful candidates may be eligible for our benefits package which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage as well as a defined benefit pension plan.
