The Estimator role is responsible for preparing pricing, estimates, quotations, and proposals related to Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) Investigation Services with the goal of successfully securing projects at various scales for the organization to execute on.
This will be a 12-month, full-time contract opportunity and is a Hybrid position (currently 1-3 days per week in the Vaughan office may be required).
YOU WILL HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO:
- Identify and analyze potential new business with existing customers and research for new opportunities online using various bidding sites for related RFP's, RFQ's, and Tenders
- Organize, review, and analyze utility information received and/or documents provided by the Client, including specifications to support pricing the scope of work requested
- Prepare a list of questions and clarifications related to the scope of work and services. Communicate these questions directly with the Client and/or through the bidding platform
- Coordinate pricing requests from vendors, suppliers, subcontractors according to the scope of work and incorporate them into the pricing
- Negotiate pricing received by suppliers and subcontractors for supporting services and products
- Determine costs for – labour, equipment, material, rentals, and contractors, etc.
- Attend site meetings where required by the RFP to review the scope of work and review the site
- Prepare and determine proposed schedules and durations for tasks associated with the scope of work
- Complete estimates, quotations, and proposals for various scaled projects related to Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) Investigation Services
- File and organize various documents related to Contracts and Agreements
- Liaison with various customer contacts where required
- Monitor and track awarded quotations and proposals and follow-up on submissions within a reasonable timeframe
- Maintain proper communication between all stakeholders involved on the project
- Review and analyze the project performance and/or productivity with the Senior Manager, and Project Manager(s) in support of improving estimates based on actual results
- Support the Management team to ensures financial KPI’s are met
- Maintain positive relationships with clients, consultants and key contractors
- Analyze market trends and support Management with Business Development
Familiar with CI/ASCE 38-02 SUE Standard - All other duties assigned to meet company objectives
THIS ROLE IS FOR YOU IF YOU HAVE THE FOLLOWING SKILLS AND QUALITIES:
- Knowledge and understanding of Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) and “ASCE 38-22 - Standard Guideline for Investigating and Documenting Existing Utilities” including SUE Quality Levels D, C, B, and A
- Undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering, or Diploma in Civil, Mechanical, Architectural, and/or Construction Management is an asset
- Minimum High School Graduation Diploma with job related experience, and completion of a post-secondary education is highly preferred
- Minimum of 1 - 3 years of experience in estimating relative to Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) Services and/or relevant work experience
- Ability to read and interpret utility / construction plans and specifications
- Effective and excellent oral and written communication skills
- Knowledge and experience with construction specifications, practices, costs and estimating techniques
- Possess strong computer skills (experience with Microsoft Office Software’s: Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
- Excellent time management skills with the ability to set priorities and meet objectives
- Comfortable working under pressure and under tight deadlines
- Ability to multitask and adapt to changing priorities
- Strengths in Mathematics
- Able to work as part of a team and independently
- Attention to detail with the ability to recognize and resolve discrepancies
