About the job

As part of the Fiscal and Corporate Planning section, you'll provide expert advice and analysis to support business strategy, fiscal planning, and program evaluation. Every day will be a little different, but you can expect to:

  • coordinate ministry forecasting and business planning submissions, ensuring alignment with financial principles and government requirements
  • work within the OPS Financial Management System (ORBIT) to ensure accuracy of the ministry's budget and financial reporting.
  • advise senior leaders and central agencies on strategic business, financial, and program planning
  • analyze data to support evidence-based decisions, performance measurement, risk management, and investment strategies
  • guide and mentor staff, manage financial reports, and recommend actions to stay within budget and legal spending limits
  • develop and implement financial tools and processes to help programs make the most of their resources

What you bring to the team

Fiscal planning and strategic analysis expertise You are skilled in:

  • interpreting and applying government policies, legislation, and priorities related to business planning, budgeting, and fiscal management
  • conducting evidence-based program analysis, developing funding scenarios, and assessing financial and operational risks
  • managing budgeting processes, forecasting expenditures, and using financial systems to support decision-making
  • providing strategic funding and investment recommendations to senior leaders

Analytical thinking and problem-solving skills

You can:

  • identify and prioritize business planning challenges and recommend practical solutions
  • provide strategic advice to support ministry planning, funding, and financial management
  • analyze complex data to uncover trends, risks, and opportunities that inform program decisions
  • advise on investment and spending priorities to support effective funding strategies

Communication and collaboration skills

You are a clear communicator who can:

  • write clear, concise reports, business cases, and recommendations
  • deliver engaging presentations and confidently share advice with stakeholders
  • build strong relationships and collaborate effectively to resolve financial issues and meet deadlines
  • handle sensitive situations with diplomacy, tact, and political awareness

Organizational, project support and technology skills

You can:

  • organize and manage projects effectively, ensuring priorities are met and deadlines are achieved
  • support program teams by sharing financial tools, guidance, and requirements
  • use software like Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint and financial systems (e.g., IFIS, Hyperion) for analysis, reporting, and financial planning and decision making
