Purchasing Agent
About the role
SaskEnergy is seeking a qualified and motivated individual to join our team. The Purchasing Agent oversees the strategic procurement process, including supervising and providing leadership to assigned staff, assessing procurement requirements, providing a high level of professionalism, integrity and consistent application of policies, trade agreements and procedures. This job also identifies, monitors, and engages Saskatchewan and Indigenous owned businesses.
Position Details
- Non-union - This position is permanent full time.
Key Accountabilities

Develop procurement strategies to ensure best value and compliance with policies, procedures, and applicable trade agreements.

Review proposals to validate compliance with all requirements. Authorize and issue contracts in compliance with purchasing procedures, polices and applicable trade agreements.

Monitor and control inventory levels, determining items and quantity requirements to provide an uninterrupted supply for corporate initiatives.

Monitor and analyze potential purchases for opportunities to add value through negotiation, price, quality assurance, expedited delivery, volume discounts, and Saskatchewan and Indigenous participation.

Build and maintain strategic relationships utilizing vendor engagement activities with Saskatchewan and Indigenous suppliers.

Manage and provide leadership in the procurement activities of the workgroup to ensure consistent application of established procurement policies and procedures.

Provide advice and guidance to internal employees and vendors involved with the purchasing process to provide a high standard of fairness and transparency in all purchasing transactions.

Maintain a current level of knowledge on purchasing processes, legal precedents, leading industry practices, trade agreements, products and market conditions and their potential impact to purchases and to the company.

Participate in Government collaboration opportunities including leading procurement competitions on behalf of all participants.

Other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Degree in Business Administration, Commerce, or a related field.
- Level 3 of the Purchasing Management Association of Canada (PMAC) professional development program or completed Year 2 of the Strategic Supply Chain Management Leadership Program (PMAC). (Certified Professional Purchaser (CPP) designation or a Supply Chain Management Professional (SCMP) designation would be considered an asset.)
- Six (6) years of experience in the purchasing profession in the gas/oil, utility, or industrial construction industry.
- Highly collaborative; interpersonal and leadership skills with the ability to build, manage and foster relationships both across the organization and with external parties.
- Ability to impact and influence others while holding people accountable.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work and manage in a changing environment.
- Ability to foster a culture focused on innovation and teamwork.
- Must have a continuing record of professional development and continuous learning.
A suitable combination of relevant education and experience may also be considered.
Additional Information
- Travel, including overnight stays away from bid headquarters is required.
- A Class 5 Driver’s License is required.
