The Role and What You Will Do
Det'on Cho Management LP is looking to hire an Elder in Residence/Knowledge Keeper, working 6-month term or working a 6-month flexible schedule over a one-year period. Working casual hours on as needed basis.
Reporting to the Vice President, People, the Elder in Residence/Knowledge Keeper's responsibilities are to ensure Indigenous perspectives, knowledge and approaches to respect are honoured in the workplace setting. This position supports a proactive, holistic approach to promoting a work culture committed to building a sustainable environment that honours the customs and traditions of Yellowknives Dene and other Indigenous peoples.
What You Bring
- Provides guidance, personal consultation, active listening, support, and mentorship to employees, including management on creating an Indigenous culture and safe work environment.
- Identifies as Yellowknives Denes First Nation member and is recognized as an Elder by the community and provides reference letter from Chiefs or Councilors.
- Knowledge and familiarity with the Yellowknives Dene culture and traditions, including dance and songs.
- Ability to plan, organize and facilitate traditional ceremonies, including public speaking protocols, opening prayers and providing blessings.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong relationship building skills with employees and guests.
- Ability to provide cultural perspectives and advice on interactions.
- Participate in and contribute to meetings, workshops, and staff training
- Familiarity with Yellowknives Dene's language, culture and way of life would be considered an asset.
