About the role
Our client, a well-established marine contractor based in Duncan, BC, is seeking a Marine Estimator to join their growing team. Specializing in marine construction and aluminum fabrication projects throughout the West Coast, they are looking for someone who can prepare accurate, competitive estimates while working closely with project managers, suppliers, and senior leadership to support successful project delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare detailed cost estimates for marine construction and aluminum fabrication projects valued up to $5M. Review drawings, specifications, and tender documents to determine project scope and pricing requirements. Complete material take-offs and develop labour, equipment, subcontractor, and material cost estimates. Solicit, evaluate, and negotiate pricing from suppliers and subcontractors. Identify project risks, assumptions, exclusions, and value engineering opportunities during the estimating process. Prepare RFQ/RFP submissions and ensure bids are complete, accurate, and submitted on schedule. Collaborate with Project Managers and engineering consultants to improve constructability and cost efficiency. Maintain estimating databases, historical pricing, and monitor material and market trends. Provide estimating support during project handover and assist with procurement and budgeting as required.
Ideal Candidate Requirements:
2+ years of estimating experience within marine construction, heavy civil, fabrication, or a related construction environment. Experience estimating projects valued up to approximately $5M. Previous experience working on marine construction projects on the West Coast is strongly preferred. Experience with HCSS is considered an asset; candidates with experience using other estimating software are also encouraged to apply. Strong understanding of construction drawings, material take-offs, labour productivity, and project costing. Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills with a strong attention to detail. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience reviewing drawings in AutoCAD or similar software is an asset. Willingness to relocate to, or commute to, Duncan, BC.
