About the role
Company Description
The Ottawa Power Wheelchair Hockey League (OPWHL), founded in 2009, is a volunteer-driven, registered charity that provides an organized, inclusive, and competitive power wheelchair hockey program for individuals with physical disabilities in Ottawa.
OPWHL athletes use power wheelchairs and compete in a modified floor hockey format designed for players with limited mobility. The league creates opportunities for athletes to develop skills, build friendships, compete in a team environment, and be part of a strong community. As an affiliate of the Canadian Electric Wheelchair Hockey Association (CEWHA), the OPWHL promotes accessibility, inclusion, empowerment, and community through sport.

Board Members help set strategic direction, support league operations, strengthen the volunteer base, plan events, manage league priorities, and ensure the OPWHL continues to grow in a healthy and sustainable way. Responsibilities may include participating in board meetings, contributing to planning and decision-making, supporting fundraising or sponsorship efforts, reviewing policies or procedures, assisting with community outreach, and helping represent the league within the broader Ottawa community.
The OPWHL is especially interested in candidates who may be able to support the roles of Treasurer or Secretary, as well as individuals with experience in finance, bookkeeping, risk management, governance, fundraising, sponsorship, communications, event planning, community outreach, accessibility, or sport administration.
