About the role
Position Purpose:
The Purchasing Supplier Manager is responsible for identifying, developing, and managing the supply base to meet Quality, Delivery, Responsiveness, and Cost metrics for the CoE. This role is responsible to align those tactics and strategies based on Commodity Strategy and site needs.
Essential Functions:
- Supplier Performance Management: With oversight, manage supplier performance to QDRC metrics as they relate to Purchasing goals
- Organization Savvy: Understand the sourcing relationships between commodity, NPI and CoE teams
- Metrics/Objectives/Actions: Execute and manage tactical issues in support of daily business needs
- Supplier Performance Management: Using supplier metrics, identify areas of concern and drive corrective action around QDRC
- Supplier Performance Management: Ability to understand commodity strategies
- Supplier Performance Management: Travels to assigned suppliers as necessary (domestic and international)
- Supplier Performance Management: Supports Engineering Change (E/C) activities with supply base, including tracking upcoming E/Cs, ordering and processing Supplier PPAPs and managing issues with suppliers
- Supplier Performance Management: Participates in periodic supplier performance reviews
- Project Management Execution: With Appropriate oversite, ability to plan, organize and implement supply base projects in alignment with commodity strategies; participate as a project team member and execute assigned tasks
- Commercial/Negotiation: Required to have some negotiating skills to perform necessary tasks and drive suppliers in various areas
- Commercial/Negotiation: Manage interaction with suppliers with appropriate coaching and mentoring
Other Essential Functions:
- WW Standard Process Engagement: Understanding/experience of manufacturing processes in one or more commodities
- WW Standard Process Engagement: Understand and execute One Woodward processes and procedures, and help site to execute them
- WW Standard Process Engagement: Some understanding of Woodward, customer, and government regulations and ability to work with suppliers for compliance to these regulations
- Materials Management Process: Solid understanding of Materials Management process and ability to work with materials management teammates (buyers, planners, etc.)
- Technical Aptitude: Understanding of technical subject matter, including tolerances, key characteristics and drawings
- Continuous Improvement: Some knowledge of Six Sigma and continuous improvement, Kaizen, Value Stream Mapping (VSM), supplier audits
- Quality Management: Some knowledge of problem solving, PPAP process, including FMEA, Control Plan, MSA, and capability studies (WPQR 9102)
- Quality Management: Ability to understand Woodward Purchasing quality systems requirements (WPQR 9100)
Knowledge Skills & Abilities:
- Interpersonal Skills: Build and maintain effective working relationship with internal and external partners/team (Operations, Engineering, Commodity, CoE, etc.)
- Interpersonal Skills: Demonstrates flexibility, willingness to change, and disciplined approach to learn and follow new processes, and commitment to drive
- Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, including presentation and public speaking
- Tools: Strong use of electronic tools, including MS-Office programs, MRP/ERP systems
Education:
- Bachelor's Degree in Arts/Sciences (BA/BS)
Experience:
- Hands-on expertise in purchasing (buyer, purchasing, etc) with experience in multiple procurement categories (I.e. electronics, castings, etc.)
