KEY FUNCTION**:**

Assist with grounds keeping duties ensuring safety, functionality, and aesthetic appeal. Perform equipment winterization on tools and equipment.

REPORTING**:**

Under the general direction of the Supervisor, Facilities Management.

DUTIES**:**

  • Prepare and assemble materials, tools, supplies and equipment for work to be performed.

  • Operate various pieces of equipment related to grounds keeping (i.e. snowplows, lawn mowers).

  • Perform winter preparation of lawns/gardens; fill sand boxes and store summer equipment.

  • Perform grounds safety inspections.

  • Maintain all walkways, sidewalks, and entrances.

  • Perform lawn care, maintain and clean-up grounds, and clean equipment.

  • Participate in education and training specific to current, relevant federal and provincial health and safety legislation, standards and guidelines.

  • Participate in hospital training as required.

  • Assist with improvement initiatives as required.

  • Perform other duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND TRAINING:

  • Minimum of a Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent (i.e. General Education Development (GED) or Academic and Career Entrance (ACE)).

  • Ministry of Labour “Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps” training certificate is required.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Three (3) months of recent relevant experience is preferred.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Demonstrated ability to safely operate outdoor power equipment (i.e. lawn mower, trimmer, snow blower).

  • Demonstrated knowledge of safe working practices.

  • Demonstrated computer skills with basic skills proficiency in Microsoft Office software (e.g. Word, Excel, and Outlook).

  • Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Ability to prioritize tasks.

  • Demonstrated compliance with HSN’s privacy policy.

  • Demonstrated commitment to the safety of co-workers and patients.

PERSONAL SUITABILITY:

  • Successful Criminal Records and Judicial Matters Check is required**.**

  • Valid driver’s license with access to vehicle is required.

  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development.

  • Demonstrated professionalism in dealing with confidential and sensitive issues.

  • Demonstrated positive work record and good attendance record.

  • Ability to meet the physical and sensory demands of the job.

  • Ability to travel between local sites.
