Position Summary
Reporting to the Coordinator, Home Support, the Home Support Aide performs basic in-home support services and assistance to seniors, the chronically ill, and those with temporary medical conditions.
Responsibilities
include, but are not limited to:
- Perform basic housekeeping duties for those individuals and families registered with the Home Support Program. Duties may include vacuuming, washing floors, cleaning bathrooms, kitchen clean-up, washing dishes, changing bed linens, laundry, and dusting.
- Call and confirm all client visits and update visit lists as changes occur.
- Provide coverage to others on the team as needed.
- Be current on emergency procedures that are to be followed and respond if an urgent situation occurs in a client’s home.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess a High School Diploma and a Standard First Aid and CPR Certificate. Previous experience of cleaning either in home or commercial environments is essential. Working with seniors, and working with related equipment such as raised toilet seats, bath benches etc. is required. The incumbent will have knowledge of Routine Precautions & Infection Control and good body mechanics. This position requires the ability to work independently, while demonstrating good judgment. Candidates will be team-orientated and possess exceptional interpersonal and customer service skills. The ability to listen and communicate effectively in a positive and courteous manner is essential. Showing initiative and attention to detail is crucial for this role. All applicants require a valid Class 5 Driver’s License and access to a vehicle for providing their own transportation. This is a physical position where the incumbent is responsible for visiting multiple homes per shift.
This position is within the scope of C.U.P.E. Local 30, and as such, you will be required to adhere to the articles contained within the Collective Agreement. A Police Information Check with a Vulnerable Sector Check will be required at the time of hire.
Hours of Work: Daytime shifts, Monday to Friday
(Hours of work cannot be forecasted as this position is casual)
