Overview Of The Position An expert in their field, the Manager of Linguistic Services oversees a team of translator-editors internally and externally, in the successful delivery of the company’s global translation needs. They will also act as a key resource in negotiating the successful review of French documentation with Regulators, and in monitoring compliance with Quebec language laws.
This role reports to the Vice President of Employee Experience and Communications who is based in Toronto.
This role is hybrid (2 - 3 days/week in the office) - based in Montreal, QC. Key Accountabilities
- Team Leadership & Development
- Manage a team of approximately 10 translator-editors in providing effective and high-quality translation services to meet our internal clients’ needs and any contractual targets.
- Ensure the team is staffed with the necessary expertise, knowledge, and adheres to strict linguistic industry quality standards, to successfully meet demands and values.
- Build specialized training programs for the team to keep current with the trends and the evolution of the translation and financial industries.
- Manage team budget and oversight of approximately 14 million words translated per year.
- Strategic Partnership & Advisory
- Act as the lead in collaborating with business units and corporate functions from the planning stage through execution, to assess needs, planning and delivery of all projects in the necessary languages within the prescribed timelines; offer training and advice to all clients on the generalized use of the French language for commercial dealings and communications with employees in the Province of Québec; play an active role on TMX’s Francization committee to ensure Québec laws are respected for a French workplace.
- Perform quality control of strategic documents in the French language and act as the resource person regarding language, translation, and text adaptation issues. Answer questions pertaining to the specific terms used across the organization.
- Represent the organization in the language industry; share knowledge, develop and bring back strategic and workable solutions.
- Service Delivery, Quality & Innovation
- Lead and monitor translation initiatives to ensure the timely provision of a breadth of linguistic services to TMX entities for a broad range of internal and external facing corporate documents, in multiple formats and languages. Adjust where necessary.
- Support TMX’s globalization strategy by sourcing and managing a bank of qualified external translation providers in foreign languages (German, Spanish, Chinese, Hebrew, Portuguese, Japanese, etc.) and all other language combination needs.
- Continually enhance productivity and customer experience by expanding in-house capacity and leveraging technologies used to support this function, including AI advancement; monitor and have oversight of new translation technologies.
- Translate and edit a wide variety of documents as needed. Ensure quality of the final product, terminology accuracy and content uniformity.
Skills And Experience
- Project management and people management
- Stakeholder management and proven experience working in the financial services, securities, or a similar highly regulated industry is essential.
- Senior-Level Translation: 7-10+ years of hands-on experience in translation and revision (in the corporate, financial, and legal sectors, an important asset)
- Bilingual (French-English) with proven writing skills
- Quebec Language Laws: Good knowledge of the Charte de la langue française du Québec (loi 101), and its amendments (loi 96) as well as its implications for francization, compliance, and commercial dealings.
- Technology & AI: Deep, practical knowledge of translation technologies
- Demonstrates attention to detail
- Has excellent ability to concentrate
