About the role

This is a remote position based in Saskatchewan.

What You’ll Do:

  • Coordinate and supervise the invasive swine removal efforts within the Wild Boar Management program.
  • Lead monitoring and trapping efforts and will coordinate outreach and communication with general public, SCIC partners, and landowners to build program’s reach into key geographical areas.
  • Organize contracted hunters for the removal of wild boar and ensure program resources are utilized effectively and efficiently.
  • Supervise landscape monitoring efforts, working with contracted field technicians and hunters to identify invasive swine populations and use data in risk-based decisions.
  • Collaborate with interprovincial counterparts to assess trends and develop a national data set to ensure ongoing program effectiveness.
  • Sit on interjurisdictional committees responsible for developing policy and interprovincial collaboration for the management of invasive swine.
  • Monitor, analyze and report on invasive swine population trends to ensure program relevance.
  • Provide promotion, education and awareness of program to SCIC staff, customers and industry stakeholders.

What You’ll Need:

  • To be successful in this position, you will need a bachelor’s degree in agriculture, wildlife management, biology, or a related field and 3 years' experience in field operations, environmental science, wildlife management, data collection/ management, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Familiarity with federal and provincial regulations regarding invasive species and feral swine and knowledge of Saskatchewan Agriculture practices.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and direct internal teams and independent contractors to reach desired results using effective leadership and organizational skills.
  • Ability to analyze business needs and processes to help identify impacts using strong analytical skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills including ability to prepare and present concise reports through various mediums to all stakeholders.

Conditions:

  • A criminal record check is required.
  • Should the successful candidate participate in the Crop Insurance or AgriStability Programs, their account must be in good standing.
  • A valid driver’s license and a willingness to travel throughout the province and internationally.
