About the Job:
Kent is seeking a System Owner to support the Kearl Projects portfolio. The System Owner is deployed to a project with primary responsibility for oversight of assigned system(s) from the later stages of Construction through handover to Operations. This includes driving system readiness through Construction, Turnover, Pre-Commissioning, Commissioning, and Start-Up Readiness phases.

Responsibilities:
Safety, Leadership & Governance
- Ensure safety is a core value in all execution activities and demonstrate visible leadership in the Project Safety Management System (PSMS)
- Actively participate in safety programs, reviews, and field engagements to promote a strong safety culture
- Advise the project team on issues that may impact safety, schedule, cost, or quality
Systems Ownership & Project Execution
- Provide directed support to project planning, execution, and Systems Completion activities to ensure successful delivery in line with prioritized objectives and appropriation requirements
- Drive assigned system(s) through Construction, Turnover, Pre-Commissioning, Commissioning, and Start-Up Readiness phases
- Complete site-level tasks in support of the project execution team, as requested
Contractor Oversight & Performance Management
- Monitor and manage contractor scope versus contractual obligations to minimize and control change
- Monitor and appraise contractor execution against approved plans and specifications
- Participate in development and implementation of improvement plans to address performance gaps
- Serve as the focal point for field-level change management, including PCRs, ITPs, and CSIs
- Interface with contractors to review change requests, provide contract interpretation, assess reasonableness, and develop recommendations with supporting rationale
Systems Completion & Interface Management
- Coordinate Systems Completion reporting and communicate priorities, risks, and changes to key stakeholders
- Support development and implementation of Systems Completion processes to ensure effective and consistent execution of work scope
- Act as the core interface between contractor site teams and Company Construction, Commissioning, and Start-Up teams
- Attend and contribute to regular coordination meetings, representing overall project priorities and influencing outcomes
Commissioning, Start-Up & Operations Integration
- Collaborate with commissioning, start-up, and continuous operations teams to ensure system requirements are clearly understood and adhered to
- Support commissioning and start-up readiness by ensuring system scope, documentation, and completion requirements are met
- Contribute to seamless handover of systems from Project execution to Operations
Performance Monitoring, Tools & Reporting
- Monitor and provide input across multiple interfaces, including project management, cost and schedule, engineering, contractors, vendors, and operations
- Ensure requirements are incorporated into project activities and progressing as planned
- Support development and use of toolkits, digital tools, commissioning technologies, and implementation of the Systems Completion Database (SCDB)
- Utilize Hexagon Systems Completion software to track system progress, set priorities, and support reporting
- Oversee RFI prioritization and release of RFI responses to contractors, ensuring alignment with commercial and technical project priorities
Continuous Improvement
- Identify project opportunities, issues, and risks; analyze impacts and recommend corrective actions
- Contribute to and coordinate Lessons Learned to support continuous improvement across the project portfolio
In addition to the responsibilities listed herein, the employee may be required to perform other ad-hoc tasks as needed or directed by the supervisor or management. These tasks will be within the reasonable scope of the employee's skills, capabilities, and role within the organization. The intent of this provision is to allow for flexibility and adaptability in meeting the dynamic needs of the organization, ensuring that operational requirements can be met efficiently. All such tasks will be assigned considering the employee's current workload and with respect to their professional development.
Your knowledge/skills, education, and experience:
Knowledge / Qualification / Training / Certification:
- Technical diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or related discipline preferred
- Significant experience supporting construction, systems completion, commissioning, or start-up activities on large industrial, oil & gas, energy, or mining projects
- Strong understanding of Systems Completion processes and project execution methodologies
- Working knowledge of Hexagon Systems Completion software and/or SCDB platforms preferred
Communication
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills
- Ability to communicate effectively with contractors, operations, and project leadership across disciplines and organizational levels
- Ability to influence outcomes without direct authority
