Description The Opportunity Duties Reporting directly to the Supervisor, Permits, this role is responsible for conducting plans review of all building and sign permit applications for compliance with the Town’s Zoning By-law, Sign By-law and all other Applicable Law, as well as the physical issuance of all permits on behalf of the Division. As the Coordinator, Building Services, you will perform the following duties, including but not limited to:

  • Review permit submissions/plans for compliance with the Zoning By-law, Sign By-law, Fence By-law, Fortification of Land By-law and all other applicable law, standards and regulations.
  • Prepare plans/permit documents for issuance and ensure electronic data is fully entered into AMANDA.
  • Communicate with applicants and design professionals with respect to identified By-law deficiencies or missing information.
  • Collaborates with the Planning and Development Division’s Administrator, Zoning to ensure uniform and consistent interpretation throughout the Department.
  • Attend/participate in meetings with clients or other internal staff.
  • Ensure that all required documents are properly complied, stamped and marked.
  • Ensure that all require fees have been paid and there are no outstanding amounts owed.
  • Inform applicant of permit issuance process.
  • Responsible for administering the Conditional Permit process – this includes drafting of Conditional Permit agreements, determination and collection of all required securities/fees.
  • Management of information related to each building permit in the AMANDA database system.
  • Ensure permit processing is effectively tracked and documented.
  • Prepare Sign Variance Reports for review and approval by CBO.
  • Research new and existing construction systems, techniques and products, and assesses them for conformity to existing standards and regulations.
  • Participates and makes recommendations in the process to improve and/or develop policies, practices and procedures that enhance effectiveness and efficiency.

The Ideal Candidate We are seeking a passionate professional with a post-secondary degree/diploma in Architecture or Civil Engineering or a closely related field. Our ideal candidate has minimum three (3) years of construction industry or municipal government experience directly engaged in the building permit process experience and experience reading and interpreting plans, specifications and data sheets pertaining to architectural design for compliance with the Zoning By-law and other applicable standards. Knowledge of AMANDA, Bluebeam and Arc Explorer would be an asset.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated sound construction practices and design. We are seeking an individual with superior computer skills, a demonstrated ability to work well independently, and in a team environment, and excellent verbal and written communication skills.

The successful candidate for Coordinator, Building Services will be required to work a flexible schedule, including in the office, remotely and after hours (as required).

This position offers an annual salary of $42.08 to $52.59 plus a competitive benefits package.
