Job Summary:
We are currently seeking a detail-oriented individual for the position of Assistant Controller within our Edmonton, AB branch.
Job Responsibilities:
- Ensure the accuracy and completeness of financial information through the preparation and review of journal entries, account reconciliations, and detailed account analysis in support of the monthly financial close.
- Prepare and analyze monthly management and operational reports, providing insights on financial performance, trends, and variances to support management decision-making.
- Support the month-end and year-end close process, including reconciliations, analysis, and issue resolution, in compliance with internal accounting policies and applicable accounting standards.
- Review accounts payable transactions across multiple divisions to ensure appropriate approvals, accurate coding, and adherence to internal control policies.
- Review and validate payroll calculations, including salaried compensation, commissions, and overtime, ensuring accuracy, authorization, and compliance prior to submission for processing by head office.
- Prepare recurring and ad-hoc financial and analytical reports for regional and senior management.
- Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation to support reporting, audit, and internal control requirements.
- Liaise with internal stakeholders and head office to resolve accounting issues and support consistent financial reporting.
Job Requirements:
- Post-secondary education in the field of Accounting or Finance
- Proficient in all MS Office applicants, with advanced Excel skills and ability to work with large amounts of data and existing spreadsheets and tracking documents.
- Able to identify accounting issues, troubleshoot solutions and make corrections.
- High level of attention to detail and accuracy required.
- Highly organized with the ability prioritize multiple demands.
- Strong analytical, problem solving and communication skills.
- Time management and attention to detail skills are essential.
- Ability to work in a deadline driven, fast paced environment.
- Committed to continuous learning, including questioning be open to ongoing constructive feedback.
Preferable
- Basic understanding of manufacturing business cycle transactions
- Prior experience with Oracle financials and/or Experience with AS400 based inventory management systems an asset.
- 1 – 2 years previous office experience an asset, business certificate preferred

We purchase these products primarily from North American steel producers, and process, package and sell them to end users in accordance with their specific needs.
Energy Field Stores Our energy field stores carry a specialized product line focused on the needs of energy industry customers. These operations distribute flanges, valves, fittings and tubular goods. We purchase products from North American steel mills, independent manufacturers of flanges, valves, fittings, pipe and tubular goods and other accessories, international steel mills or other distributors.
Steel Distributors Our steel distributors act as master distributors selling steel in large volumes to other steel service centers and large equipment manufacturers mainly on an "as is" basis. The main steel products sourced by this segment are carbon steel plate, flat rolled products, beams, channel and pipe.
