Position: Community, Youth & Family Engagement (Contractor)

Location: White Rock/South Surrey and community

Hours: Up to 15 hours/week contracted

Salary: $28/hour

Start Date: September 22, 2025

We are looking for a Community, Youth & Family Engagement Contractor – Foundry South Surrey/White Rock to join our Foundry Center Development team! Ideally, this individual is a collaborative and adaptable team player, with strong communication and relationship-building skills, a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License, and experience working with youth and families from diverse backgrounds. They have a demonstrated understanding of cultural safety, equity, and inclusion, are comfortable facilitating groups, and are proficient in basic computer applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).

Description of Position:
Reporting to: Director of Foundry Development

General Responsibilities:

  • Maintain professionalism, self-awareness, and confidentiality in all interactions.
  • Work independently and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team.
  • Apply cultural safety, equity, diversity, and inclusion practices in daily work.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with community members, partners, and stakeholders.
  • Prepare written reports, presentations, and other administrative documents as required.
  • Represent Foundry South Surrey/White Rock at community events and public forums.
  • Adhere to organizational policies and contribute to policy development as needed.
  • Use standard software tools (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) for communication and documentation.
  • Support the Project Lead with additional tasks as required.

Program-specific Responsibilities:

  • Establish and facilitate Youth Advisory Committee and Family Advisory Committee to bring lived experience into decision-making.
  • Engage youth and families through focus groups, surveys, and workshops in alignment with Foundry’s Youth and Family Engagement Guide.
  • Build trusting relationships with at-risk youth and families, including those facing mental health challenges, substance use concerns, or complex social needs.
  • Integrate youth and family input into the development of policies, procedures, and programs for the Foundry South Surrey/White Rock site.
  • Ensure diverse voices are included, particularly from Indigenous, LGBTQIA2S+, and other underrepresented communities.
  • Collaborate with community partners, schools, and service providers to broaden engagement opportunities.
  • Promote awareness of Foundry services and initiatives to youth, families, and the wider community.
  • Attend community events such as White Rock Pride, Seafest, Alexander House Days along with Youth Advisory Committee members to promote Foundry awareness
  • Track engagement activities, compile feedback, and report findings to the Project Lead for incorporation into site planning.

Qualifications:

  • Secondary School Diploma or equivalent; post-secondary diploma in a related field (e.g., Social Services, Child and Youth Care) is an asset.
  • Minimum one year of experience (paid or volunteer) working with youth and families in a related setting is preferred.
  • Lived or living experience with mental health or substance use, or as a caregiver, with readiness to engage young people who have lived or living experience with mental health or substance use.
