About the Role
We’re seeking a Senior Manager, Financial Planning and Analysis who is responsible for financial analysis, budgeting and forecasting, reporting, planning for DC initiatives, and providing ad hoc support to projects and programs across the organization. This management role will take the initiative to identify process improvements and adopt best practices within the Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) function with a focus on delivering excellence to business partners.
**Location:**Diabetes Canada’s national office is located at 1000–170 University Avenue, Toronto, Ontario. Flexible work agreement policy in place, allowing employees to work on a hybrid schedule, working remotely and with the expectation to be in the office 1-2 days per week.
**Compensation:**The hiring salary range for this role is $115,000 - $125,000 annually, depending on skills and experience with meeting the requirements of the role.
What You’ll Do
- Performs managerial/supervisory functions, including hiring, developing, evaluating, and managing performance expectations of a team of 3 employees in the Planning & Analysis department.
- Leads the budgeting and forecasting processes, including but not limited to:
- Developing clear timelines for the processes
- Ensuring effective tools are in place for the collection and consolidation of business financial information.
- Providing training to the business unit participants on timelines and tools
- Developing/managing effective reporting throughout the process
- Preparing analysis of the overall budget, identifying key drivers to changes in revenue and expense draft budgets
- Effectively tracking the changes to the budget
- Managing an efficient upload to the ERP system
- Supports the periodic strategic planning processes by providing effective tools and participating in the development and analysis of the plan content.
- Leads the monthly review and analysis of results, including but not limited to:
- supporting business units in the understanding of the booked transactions
- assisting with the development of accurate accruals and adjustments,
- developing clear explanations for variances from budgets/forecasts and
- working with business units to identify next steps with respect to variances.
- Proactively support business units in the assessment of new contractual arrangements and identify the appropriate timing for recording revenue and expenses relating to these activities.
- Supports the business units in the development of business cases for new initiatives, ensuring alignment with the organization’s strategic objectives.
- Support the maintenance of and identify opportunities to enhance the allocation modelling to support CRA’s requirements for charitable entity reporting of expenses.
- Supports decision-making by providing stakeholders with timely and meaningful insights on business performance through monthly commentary, budget commentary, and reporting to the financial subcommittee of the Board of Directors.
- Identifying best practices and implementing digital transformation to ensure the best utilization of automation and streamlining of processes.
- Performing ad-hoc analysis where required to assist in management decision-making
- Provide back-up support to the ED Finance and the Senior Manager, Accounting, as required
Team Leadership
- Performs managerial/supervisory functions, including hiring, orienting, managing performance expectations, developing, evaluating, employee relations, and departures of all reporting employees in the FPA department.
- The role has 2 direct reports and 1 indirect: Sr. Financial Analyst and Financial Analyst.
- This role is not limited to the responsibilities listed above and may include other duties as required.
What You Bring
- University Degree in Finance, Business Administration, Accounting.
- CPA Accounting designation
- 7-10 years of progressively responsible, relevant experience in accounting or financial roles.
- 4-5 years of people management.
- NFP experience is an asset
- Proven leadership skills with the ability to effectively manage and develop an FP&A team of 3, including 2 direct reports (Sr. Financial Analyst, Financial Analyst)
- Demonstrated ability to build collaborative relationships with diverse teams across various functions.
- Strong quantitative abilities and reporting skills, with the ability to effectively interpret data and communicate the narrative.
- A tenacious problem solver with a continuous improvement mindset.
- An effective listener, with the ability to learn from others.
- An excellent communicator and presenter with an ability to influence.
- Proven track record in building effective budgeting and reporting processes
- Proficient computer literacy, with expert skills in MS Office, Excel, Word, Power Point, Outlook, SharePoint
- Experience with financial systems (experience with Unit 4 an asset)
- Experience with Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software and/or Power Query an asset
