Position Summary Perform general cleaning duties at City Recreation Facilities.
Key Duties & Responsibilities Responsible for the general cleanliness of municipal recreation facilities in order to ensure they are maintained in a healthy, safe and sanitary manner following best practices and appropriate schedules.
Open various facilities, disengage alarm systems and lock up and reinstate security systems.
Greet and liaise with customers using the facilities in a friendly manner.
Responsible for the beautification of entry ways, walkways and parapets surrounding the perimeter of the facilities.
Clean, disinfect and sanitize all touch surfaces.
Clean washrooms, offices, dressing rooms, meeting rooms, gymnasiums, floors and stairs using mops, vacuums and other industry cleaning tools.
Clean kitchen sinks and counters daily and as required, fridges.
Complete dusting of all furniture, fixtures and other areas (high and low).
Clean interior and exterior glass surfaces including doorways, mirrors, interior separation windows etc., using the appropriate tools.
Ensure appropriate waste management schedules are completed including moving garbage and recycling to and from the curb.
Handle various materials, assist operations personnel with the movement of office equipment, furniture, and other items.
Set up and tear down of room set ups.
Shovel snow, spread ice melt, sweep and remove debris.
Complete audit reports to document activity and to formally report any deficiency findings.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications, Competencies Three (3) months experience working as a custodian, cleaning buildings/facilities.
Knowledge and experience of standard cleaning methods.
Valid “G” Driver License and access to a vehicle is considered an asset.
WHMIS Certification required.
Skills, Abilities, Work Demands Knowledge and skills attained through related experience and completion of a Workplace Hazardous Materials Information Systems course.
Ability to use computer tools for the purpose of ordering materials, checking email communications from supervision, schedules, meeting invites, safety bulletins etc., as well as completing work orders online (training will be provided).
Ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions as well as reporting using the same form of medium.
Ability to deal with other staff and members of the public in a way that promotes team work, respect and customer service.
Ability to perform routine, repetitive tasks on a continuous basis.
Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
Able to perform the essential duties of the job, such as frequent bending, walking, manipulation and lifting of products and equipment.
Shift work will be required; a dynamic attitude toward working at various sites is a must.
Must obtain and maintain a satisfactory criminal record check.
