The Department of Finance is looking for qualified candidates to fill the Economic Data Analyst positions.
The Manitoba Government has a comprehensive benefit package which includes extended health care, health spending account, dentalcare, vision care, long term disability insurance, group life insurance, maternity/paternity leave, family related leave, and a defined pension plan (some pension plans allow for portability between the Civil Service Superannuation Board and employers).
The Manitoba Bureau of Statistics is the government’s central statistics agency, responsible for the compilation, management, analysis, coordination and dissemination of economic, demographic and social statistics for the province of Manitoba. Operating under the terms of the Manitoba Statistics Act, MBS collaborates with departments and agencies to address data and statistical requirements. Additionally, under federal-provincial agreement, MBS is the designated contact between the Manitoba government and Statistics Canada that acts as the official liaison regarding statistical matters related to the province’s economic, social and demographic conditions. Duties:
The role involves collecting, cleaning, and validating data from various sources, including surveys and administrative databases, and performing quantitative analyses to identify economic trends.
Responsibilities include developing and maintaining economic models, such as Input-Output models and dynamic macroeconomic models, to forecast and evaluate capital proposals and investments.
The position requires preparing reports, visualizations, and dashboards to communicate findings to stakeholders, interpreting data trends related to GDP, employment, inflation, and trade, and analyzing the economic impact of proposed legislation, programs, or projects. Additionally, the role supports policy development through data-driven recommendations and involves collaboration and communication with government departments and the public.
Qualifications:
Essential:

Post-secondary education in economics. An equivalent combination of relevant education, training and experience may be considered

Experience with Supply Use Table modelling for Economic Impacts Assessments
-
Experience producing provincial GDP estimates within the National Accounts Framework
-
Strong written experience including writing government briefing notes on economic subject matter
-
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
-
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a collaborative and cooperative manner with colleagues and senior government
-
Effective verbal communication and presentation skills
-
Ability to quickly assimilate information while managing multiple and changing priorities within tight deadlines
-
Ability to work independently and exercise good judgement in making decisions while working under minimal supervision
Desired:
- Experience using R programing
