Title Planner 3 (City Design and Planning) Job Status Regular Full Time Position Overview

The Planning, Development, and Real Estate department requires a regular full-time Planner 3 to join their team.
Responsibilities Reporting to the Manager, Planning (City Design and Planning), this is a senior planning position overseeing a variety of areas in long-range planning, major developments, sustainability and urban design leadership. In this position, you will lead the development of community and area plans, Official Community Plan updates, Development Permit Area guidelines and policy plans and strategies. Additionally, you will participate in major development application reviews in coordination with senior colleagues in Development Planning to evaluate applications against the goals of the Official Community Plan and Council’s Strategic Plan. This is a role that is responsible for overseeing, directing and guiding staff on multiple complex projects. Performs related duties as required.
Requirements You will have a university degree in an appropriate discipline, together with a post-graduate degree in Community/Regional Planning along with considerable related knowledge of land economics, industry practice, municipal governance, policy creation, bylaw preparation and real estate development. Sound related experience in land use planning; urban design, including the preparation and application of urban design guidelines and design focused policy development; community engagement; housing policy; and heritage planning is required. A strong project management skill set, effective written and oral communication skills and the ability to exercise judgement in complex problem solving is required to be successful in this role, along with Membership or eligibility for membership in the Planning Institute of B.C. or the Canadian Institute of Planner. Attendance at evening Council, committee and public meetings is also required.
Compensation $61.73 to $73.15 per hour
(Pay Grade 33 – January 2024 rates)
Hours of Work
The City of North Vancouver currently works on a compressed work schedule of 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, with one scheduled day off (Monday or Friday) approximately each three-week scheduling cycle.
