The Opportunity

The Saskatchewan Marshals Service is seeking a creative and highly motivated professional to join our team as a Records Controller. Reporting to the Manager, Police Records, you will be responsible for electronic and physical investigative records including seized property and court disclosure packages.

As a Records Controller, you will:

  • Be responsible for the quality of data input, stored and retrieved from police IT systems including CPIC, CJIMS, CJIM, EPIC, PROS and Moveit;
  • Support the quality control, creation and storage of court and disclosure packages and CPIC records;
  • Support police officers and civilian members in physical and electronic processes and systems;
  • Review all general occurrences created in the records management system and ensure quality, accuracy and appropriateness of the information contained in the records;
  • Conduct regular system, user and quality control audits;
  • Have in depth knowledge of the RMS Data Model to be able to create and run reports and provide CCJS with statistical data; and
  • Maintain effective working relationships with SMS employees, Crown Prosecutors, Federal Prosecutors, Provincial Court, Kings Bench, Justice of the Peace, Probation Services, Victim Services, SPSA, partnering police agencies and the public.

Ideal Candidate

You are an organized critical thinker with excellent problem-solving skills who:

  • Brings significant experience in both physical and electronic police records systems;
  • Understands legal principles and precedence in relation to documenting related to police investigations;
  • Familiar with the Criminal code of Canada, Evidence Act (Saskatchewan), Saskatchewan Police Act and Regulations and FOIP;
  • Communicates complex issues clearly and credibly with varied audiences;
  • Independently organizes and prioritizes a high-volume workload and projects taking into consideration task complexity, frequent interruptions and deadlines; and
  • Can multitask in a highly stressed, demanding environment to meet deadlines.

Typically, the knowledge and experience required to achieve the above is obtained through:

  • A diploma in Computer Science, Legal Studies or Business Administration along with several years of related experience with a Category 1 police agency.
