About the role
The Opportunity
Reporting directly to the Director, Development Planning, this role is responsible for the overall management and guidance of all development planning services including development coordination, planning counter functions, committee of adjustment, zoning and development outside of the urban area, and for providing the necessary support services to the Planning Department. You will lead a high-performing team responsible for the development review process and act as a subject matter expert for the Town’s planning framework. You will be responsible for ensuring seamless coordination and effective workflow within the Planning and Development Department.
As the Manager, Planning Services & Zoning, you will perform the following duties, including but not limited to:

Oversee the daily operations and supervision of development application review processes including Official Plan Amendments, Zoning By-law Amendments, Site Plan Control, Draft Plans of Subdivision and Condominium, and more

Provide expert planning advice, recommendations, and opinions to internal and external stakeholders including Council and senior staff

Represent the Planning Department at Committee and Council meetings and at the Ontario Land Tribunal, providing professional planning opinion and testimony

Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to improve planning processes, policies, procedures, and customer experience

Lead and support a team of planners, technicians, and coordinators; manage budgets, service coverage, staff performance, and training
The Ideal Candidate
We are seeking a strategic and experienced professional with a post-secondary degree in Planning or a closely related field. Our ideal candidate has 7 years of land use planning experience, including 3 years in a supervisory role.
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated knowledge of the Planning Act, Provincial Policy Statement, Provincial Plans, and the local planning policy framework. We are seeking an individual with superior leadership and communication skills, a demonstrated ability to manage complex development applications, and excellent project management and analytical skills.
The successful candidate for Manager, Planning Services & Zoning will be required to work a flexible schedule, including in the office, remotely and after hours (as required).
This position offers a salary range of $135,329.15 to $169,161.44 plus a competitive benefit package.
Satisfactory passing of a criminal record check, and proof of qualifications will be required of any successful candidate(s) for this position.
