About the role

Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit, including GO Expansion, Light Rail Transit routes, and major expansions to Toronto’s subway system, to get people where they need to go, better, faster and easier. Metrolinx is an agency of the Government of Ontario.

This role is based at our facility in Etobicoke. Our team is highly collaborative, and much of our work benefits from in‑person co‑creation, relationship‑building, and hands‑on partnership with leaders across the organization.

We’re looking for a Senior Asset Manager, Rail Fleet Projects to join our Operations team. The core focus will be the development, and support of, asset renewal investment strategies and State Of Good Repair programs throughout the asset life cycle.

What will I be doing?

  • Develops, and represents the asset class for the planning, delivery, acceptance and handover of the assigned asset class base from capital delivery to operations in close collaboration with asset class technical and engineering experts, internal and external stakeholders, agency divisions and commercial and delivery teams.
  • Supports the development and review of asset class maintenance models, and assures compliance to requirements and standards, as applicable for agency performed and outsourced contracts and provides oversight to agency performed and outsourced maintenance contracts, including for spare parts and consumables, material management and training for new equipment and designs.
  • Develops standards, asset management requirements, and acceptance criteria for the assigned asset base in close collaboration with other agency divisions, commercial and delivery teams, external industry stakeholders and regulators.
  • Supports revisions to standards and asset information requirements resulting from the implementation and operationalization of new equipment, technology, and systems.
  • Adopts a continual improvement mind set to propose and implement new and emerging technologies to enhance service levels and cost efficiencies to meet the levels of service and practices for operational and planning excellence.
  • Reports on and provides justification for variances, risks to budgets and recommends and implements budget recovery strategies.
  • Provides oversight and direction to staff and functional project teams, including defining team member roles, responsibilities, and expectations

 

What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?

  • Degree in Asset Management, Engineering, Engineering Management or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent.
  • Years of experience in asset management, or related, engineering disciplines or a combination of planning, design, build, operations, and maintenance of comparable transit systems.
  • Experience with managing and leading a team.
  • Asset Management, P.Eng. designation or C.E.T. certification will be an asset.
  • Knowledgeable and able to deploy, project management principles and practices.
  • Knowledgeable and able to support the RT-EAM technical functions in the development of technical standards and requirements.
  • Knowledgeable in the identification, and development of mitigation strategies for unplanned asset class operational disruptions.
  • Proficient in asset class or system wide whole life cost model outputs, content, and compliance review of annual asset management plans for agency retained assets and outsourced asset management and maintenance contracts.
  • Proficient in the review of revised annual asset management plan based on the output from the whole life cost model resulting from alignment of asset investment plans and interventions to Asset Management and corporate objectives for agency retained and outsourced contracts.
