Position Purpose The Senior Relationship Manager will function as a key member of the IO loan program team and be responsible for intaking loan requests, liaising with borrowers and internal stakeholders through the approval process, such as underwriters, legal counsel, credit team, and treasury through to the approval process and throughout the project operation and loan monitoring phases.
What You Will Do
- Manage the process of a qualified client financing opportunity to a successful loans advance.
- Building on a solid understanding of borrower and project eligibility as mandated by IO’s enabling legislation and credit risk appetite.
- Act as the lead representative from IO to work with eligible borrower sectors (e.g. municipalities, not-for-profit long-term care providers, not-for-profit affordable housing providers, and other sectors as identified in IO’s enabling legislation) to deliver infrastructure financing loans.
- Communicate different credit facilities and loan terms which may be suitable for different borrower sectors and for different purposes.
- Ensure credit and legal requirements are met, including for municipal borrowers, ensure that procedural and documentary requirements necessary to comply with the Municipal Act and IO’s enabling legislation.
- Coordinate communication and resolution of issues as they arise in the course of reviewing a loan request with the borrower, members of IO’s loan program team, senior management, and others as required to ensure that the loan approval process is proceeding in a timely manner, issues are escalated to the right stakeholders as appropriate, and the loan is structured and approved in accordance with IO’s credit policy requirements.
- In collaboration with Underwriting, Credit, and Legal Groups, as required, obtain all required client information to assess creditworthiness and security requirements relating to new loan requests.
- Review financial and project information received from clients to ensure that the documents are responsive to underwriting and credit needs and that the financing opportunity is viable within the parameters of IO’s credit risk policy. Liaise with Underwriting and Credit teams to assist with their development of credit applications for submission to the Credit Committee. Communicate with the client to assist in the negotiation of loan terms and conditions.
- Develop loan business cases and specific client solutions.
- Produce reports, perform standard financial analysis, and develop loan business cases.
- Work on cross-functional teams to improve services for clients.
- Collaborate to build and maintain strong relationships with colleagues and diverse stakeholders, including Government Ministries, IO senior management and various sector organizations.
What We Are Looking For:
- Experience and understanding of Credit Risk and Commercial Banking.
- Financial literacy - Knowledge of financial principles, and commercial lending practices.
- Experience working with external clients and multiple internal stakeholders to provide client-focused solutions within the parameters of the applicable credit guidelines, either within a financial institution, investment, municipality, or infrastructure development entity.
- Excellent analytical skills to research, synthesize, and analyze financial data and other information.
- Solid communication and presentation skills in order to present financial concepts and solutions in a clear and simple manner, through verbal presentations and written communications.
- Understanding of municipal infrastructure financing models and public sector operations is an asset.
- Experience in financing infrastructure projects is an asset.
- Knowledge of the long-term care, affordable or social housing sectors is an asset.

We offer a competitive hiring range of $106,000 to $143,400 ( P5 level), pay will align with skills, knowledge and experience of the candidate.
