Job Description BUSINESS OPERATION FUNCTIONAL LEAD People & Safety

The Opportunity BC Ferries is embarking on a n important transformation with the implementation of a new Human Capital Management (HCM), Payroll, and Workforce Management (WFM) solution. We are hiring two Business Operations Functional Leads to take on key roles in this transformation, ensuring our systems and processes are designed to fully support our organizational goals .

These critical role s within the HR Improvements Program (HRIP) will oversee a specific functional area, lead solution design and implementation, and ensure operational excellence in one of the largest and most impactful initiatives at BC Ferries.

The Role Reporting to the Director, People Analytics & Systems , you contribute v alue through key areas of oversight such as:

  • Lead ing the design and oversight of your functional area to ensure alignment with business strategy and organizational goals ;
  • Partnering with System integrator ( SI ) , and Functional Leads and interest holders t hrough all phases of the project, including design, data migration, testing, and go-live ;
  • Validat ing solutions through multiple cycles of hands-on data and business process validation; engag ing with the broader community when applicable (Prototype reviews + UAT) ;
  • Participat ing in testing defect triage discussions and the prioritization of issues identified ;
  • Collaborat ing with other domain-specific leads to ensure functional alignment and integration across program areas ;
  • Ensur ing the functional area complies with organizational policies, standards, and regulatory requirements ;
  • Apply ing best practices and methodologies to enhance efficiency, compliance, and functional performance ;
  • Identify ing and mitigat ing risks associated with the functional area ;
  • Collaborat ing with Change Management team on impact analysis, communication strategy and plan ;
  • Contribut ing to the training strategy preparation and review of the training material ;
  • Communicat ing functional initiatives, progress, and outcomes to interest holders;

What You Bring To The Team

  • Three to Five years’ experience being part of major project delivery, either through leading a team or collaborating across teams
  • A combination of education and experience that provides deep knowledge in HR domains such as Recruitment, Compensation, Payroll, or Workforce Management
  • Experience in project management methodologies (Agile, Waterfall)
  • Relevant HCM certifications
  • Demonstrated experience leading functional areas and collaborating effectively across diverse teams
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to make data-driven decisions
  • Clear decision-making, problem-solving, and communication skills
