The Ministry of Transportation is seeking three (3) strategic and experienced Senior Surveyors to lead the Geomatics Technical Support Unit. This team includes field staff, plan technicians, and Record Services personnel. In this pivotal role, you will serve as the ministry's subject matter expert on legal surveys, as well as the legal history, ownership, and character of Ontario's highways.

Provide expert leadership and technical guidance as the regional authority on Geomatics, supporting both unit staff and broader regional initiatives.

Plan, direct, and oversee the activities of the Geomatics Technical Support Unit, ensuring responsiveness to evolving priorities and project timelines.

Prepare Minister's Orders and Orders in Council; sign and certify Notices of Assumption, Notices of Crown Land Abandonment, and a variety of jurisdictional and legal survey plans.

Offer strategic input on the development of Geomatics policies, standards, and quality assurance frameworks.

Manage all HR and administrative functions, including recruitment, performance evaluation, and staff development and training.
Meet Your New Team
The Transportation Infrastructure Management Division provides leadership to the development of policies and standards associated with the management of the province's highway network. This includes investment planning and strategies, contract management and operational issues, and standards related to the design, construction and maintenance of highways.
What you bring to the team
Mandatory requirements:
- Professional Certification: You hold or have the ability to obtain a Ontario Land Surveyor License and Ontario Land Information Professional designation.
Strategic Leadership:

Program Delivery and Analytical Expertise:
- Technical Oversight: You bring in-depth knowledge of geomatics theory, survey practices, and specialized equipment and software.
- Field and Office Coordination: You oversee engineering and legal survey fieldwork, plan production, and data distribution.
- Problem Solving: You address complex survey challenges and coordinate end-to-end operations.
- Analytical Evaluation: You assess service provider submissions, negotiate agreements, and evaluate performance outcomes.
Technical and Legislative Knowledge:
- Regulatory Expertise: You understand legislation such as the Surveys Act, Land Titles Act, and Public Transportation and Highway Improvement Act.
- Legal Acumen: You are familiar with land registration, court procedures, AOLS standards, and First Nation land treaties.
- Survey Law Proficiency: You apply expert knowledge of property boundaries, legal ownership, and highway jurisdiction.
- Interpretation and Advice: You interpret legislation, provide expert guidance, and deliver defensible evidence in hearings.
Communication and Relationship Management:

Stakeholder Engagement: You use strong verbal, negotiation, and consultation skills to resolve issues and build partnerships.

Written Communication: You prepare technical reports, official documents, and deliver impactful presentations.
