Summer Student – HR Assistant
About the role
Job Type: Full-Time Student
Term End Date: August 28, 2026
Location: Sioux Lookout, Ontario
Rate of Pay: Hourly $ 22.136 - $29.733
Hours of Work: 35 hours per week

Qualifications:
- Persons of First Nations ancestry will be given preference (OHRC, Part II, Special Employment).
- Ability to communicate in one of the First Nations dialects in the Sioux Lookout Zone is an asset.
- Third year or higher in post-secondary program with an accredited College/University in Business/Business Administration, Human Resources, Marketing, or a related program
- Ability to work with all levels of staff (independently or part of a team) internally/externally and build relationships with stakeholders.
- Excellent client service skills with the ability to earn and retain client confidence.
- Proficient written and oral communication skills.
- Strong computer skills: Proficiency with Microsoft Office Programs
- Knowledge and experience related to First Nations and corporate governance including the First Nations political environment and background is an asset.
- Knowledge of all Provincial legislative standards and guidelines as they relate to the recruitment process (e.g., ESA, OHSA, AODA, Ontario Human Rights Code, etc.).
- Ability to perform the requirements of the role on a regular basis.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Learn and support various HR generalist activities including recruitment, onboarding, HR reporting and analytics, creation and maintenance of HR databases, and health and safety
- Assist with day-to-day employee requests
- Assist with data entry in Human Resources Information System (UKG)
- Support the HR team to ensure deadlines are met
- Assist with administrative functions
- Participate in Other duties as assigned
