Shift Work Required: Night Shift
Rate of Pay: $33.31 per hour

The start date will follow the selection process.

Main Function: Reporting to the Supervisor of Transit Assets and Services, this position is responsible to perform the duties of a Transit Night Leader.

Duties:

  1. Oversee and direct the work of Transit Servicepersons and Cleaning employees in the safe and efficient operation of the Detail and Service Bay, and related areas. Oversee the work of employees engaged in transit vehicle cleaning, detailing, fuel, oil and liquid dispensing, bus shuttling, farebox emptying, bus stop and shelter maintenance.
  2. Assist and provide direction to employees working various locations in the execution of vehicle cleaning, detailing, bus shelter and sign cleaning and repairs, and other work assignments including, but not limited to, lunch, breaks, and scheduling.
  3. Determine the quality of work by follow-up inspection, providing coaching/direction as required. Report concerns and recommend corrective action to the Supervisor of Transit Assets and Services.
  4. Clean, detail and service all transit vehicles including dispensing and recording of fuels, oils and other fluids as required.
  5. Empty fareboxes on each transit vehicle on a nightly basis.
  6. Bus shuttling, parking and relocation of transit vehicles as required.
  7. Report abnormalities on transit vehicles such as leaks, damage and mechanical issues.
  8. Clean, detail and perform maintenance on bus stops and bus shelters.
  9. Assemble, construct and install bus stops and bus shelters.
  10. Complete reports for bus and bus shelter cleaning and detailing.
  11. Keep Detail and Service bays, and related work areas clean.
  12. Control usage of Detail and Service Bay supplies, tools and equipment.
  13. Monitor and maintain stock inventory for all materials and equipment required for bus cleaning, bus servicing, but shelter and bus stop sign maintenance. Identify procurement needs for review to the Supervisor of Transit Assets and Services.
  14. Report any building or equipment maintenance, or safety issues and repairs as required (e.g. doors, climate control, bus wash).
  15. Oversee and perform yard maintenance as directed, including winter control.
  16. Oversee and operate power and hand tools, Loader, Plow Truck and Sander, Sweeper (ride on).
  17. Provide training on all relevant processes in the area of Transit Assets and Services.
  18. Develop and maintain a thorough working knowledge of CGS's Safety Manual and the applicable Provincial Legislation listed therein including the Highway Traffic Act, Traffic Control Manual, OTM Books and the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  19. Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications

Education and Training:

  • Successful completion of Secondary School (Grade XII) Education.
  • Must be able to obtain Commercial Vehicle Wheel Service certification.

Experience:

  • Minimum of two (2) years of related experience within a fast-paced production line environment, including supervision of crew within a Transit or Maintenance operation.
  • Transit experience considered an asset.

Other Requirements:

  • Physically capable of constant movement such as bending, twisting, rotations, sitting, standing and walking distances of up to 10 kilometers per shift.
  • Must be physically capable of lifting 70lbs.
  • Performing shift work including night shift.
  • Must be able to exercise sound judgement in cases of emergency.
  • Demonstrate mechanical ability and aptitude.
  • Demonstrate interpersonal skills in dealing with the public, staff and outside agencies in a courteous and effective manner.
  • Knowledge of computer software and administrative systems in a Windows environment (e.g., file maintenance, spreadsheet applications, information input and retrieval).
  • Ability to park and manoeuvre transit vehicles in the garage and through the bus wash to the Manger of Transit Assets and Services satisfaction.
  • Must be familiar will applicable health and safety legislation and regulations as well as knowledge of safe work practices (e.g., WHMIS). Provide proactive and reactive coaching/intervention as required.
  • Ability to use a variety of cleaning supplies and chemicals common to the work being performed.
  • Excellent use of English; verbally and in writing.
  • Satisfactory health, attendance and former employment history.
  • Must be physically capable of operating a vehicle safely, possess a valid Class “DZ” driver's licence, and have an acceptable driving record.

Development opportunity rate of pay: $31.64 per hour. The successful candidate will be paid at the reduced rate until the minimum qualifications have been met.
