At BWXT Nuclear Energy Canada Inc. (BWXT NEC), we are committed to excellence in every business initiative. With over 500 workers across locations in Peterborough, Toronto, and Arnprior, BWXT NEC supplies nuclear fuel and fuel channel components, services, equipment and parts for the CANDU® nuclear power industry.

We are looking for a Senior Project Manager for our Peterborough, Ontario site. BWXT NEC's Fuel Handling and Engineered Solutions group is involved in the design, manufacture, development, testing, parts supply, and service of on-power refueling, reactor maintenance, and nuclear medicine delivery tooling sold around the world. We are the original designer of the automated systems that allow 24/7 on power refueling of CANDU reactors and aim to solve some of the Nuclear Industry’s most challenging problems. Today, BWXT’s equipment is being used in most of the nuclear power plants in Canada and is critical to delivering carbon free energy production and lifesaving medical isotopes.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Senior Project Manager has accountability for their assigned projects (budget, schedule, and overall customer satisfaction); and to ensure the Company’s resources are properly directed for satisfactory contract execution. The Senior Project Manager will lead projects with influence, and execute control over budgets, schedules, and non-technical communication. As a Senior Project Manager, these core responsibilities are expected to be employed with significantly more independence, and more leadership focused on mentorship and coaching.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead diverse, sometimes large (>15 members) teams, toward the successful execution of assigned contracts.

  • Provide effective leadership through communicating expectations and instilling accountability.

  • Responsible for ownership and maintenance of the project schedule and register, while leveraging project team support.

  • Responsible for accurate and timely publication of project reports as defined in the contract.

  • Takes preventative and corrective actions based on project performance metrics to avoid risks and maximize mutual success.

  • Ensure resources (human and other) are properly directed for satisfactory contract execution.

  • Defines and clarifies uncommon or unique project roles in complex project organizations.

  • Coordinate and support execution of planned activities; and continually review the effectiveness of the plan with the organization’s project team and client as needed.

  • Understand, predict, adjust, and react to changes that may affect the execution of the contract, using change management procedures; and ensure baselines are maintained, such that project performance data integrity is preserved.

  • Lead the organization of complex proposals and support planning efforts necessary for the submission of contract proposals and changes.

  • Support sub-contracting efforts to ensure execution of contracts within the client contract defined constraints; and ensure effective sub-vendor management is considered and addressed through the project schedule and register.

  • Strive for mutual success of client and organization through balancing of expectations; and seek to independently elevate the appropriate approach to avoid escalation within the BWXT organization.

  • Escalate within BWXT when mutual success is jeopardized, with appropriate recovery plans or options.

  • Identify, communicate, monitor, mitigate, and avoid risks, during the execution of the contract.

  • Responsible for contract execution within the organization’s governance and compliant with departmental procedures; and to seek appropriate approvals for deviations when necessary.

  • Suggest and raise opportunities aimed at improving the departmental governance, procedures, tools, and best practices.

  • Support and sometimes lead the continuous improvement of departmental governance, procedures, tools, and best practices.

  • Support Accounts Receivable in timely receipt of clients’ payments.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, or other suitable field from an accredited university;

  • 15 years of related experience;

  • Proven mastery of project management fundamentals like, scheduling, earned-value management, budget controls, and change management;

  • Demonstratable understanding of complex contract management;

  • Proven mastery in organizing, analyzing, and presenting large and diverse data sets;

  • Demonstratable understanding, comfort and experience regarding complex and difficult client management and commitment to client relationships and mutual success;

  • Professional mastery of English, in written and verbal forms.

DESIRED CHARACTERISTICS:

  • 20 years of related industry experience;
  • 10 years of project management experience in a project based organization;
  • Experience in the nuclear energy production industry;
  • High level of competency with Oracle Primavera P6;
  • High level of competency with Microsoft Excel;
  • Project Management Professional certification.

The base salary range for this position in Ontario at the start of employment is expected to be between $89,000 and $139,000 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits.
