JOB SUMMARY

The Retail Manager is responsible for leading all retail operations for Grouse Mountain Resort, including merchandising, buying, inventory management, sales performance, and team leadership across multiple retail outlets. This role develops and executes retail strategies that maximize revenue, enhance the guest experience, and align with the Grouse Mountain brand.

The Retail Manager oversees product sourcing and purchasing, manages retail staff, and ensures stores are visually compelling, well-stocked, and delivering exceptional service. Working closely with Sales & Marketing, Guest Services, and other departments, this role identifies opportunities for growth, responds to guest feedback, and ensures operational and financial performance targets are achieved.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Develop and execute sales, merchandising, purchasing, and business development strategies across all Grouse Mountain retail outlets.
  • Manage retail financial performance including sales targets, labour budgets, inventory levels, and cost of goods.
  • Source, select, and purchase retail merchandise while negotiating vendor terms and managing ordering, receiving, and inventory control.
  • Source merchandise for other departments including staff events, staff uniforms and gifts
  • Complete order entry and receiving
  • Lead, coach, and develop retail staff to build product knowledge, deliver exceptional service, and maintain high performance standards.
  • Manage the guest experience and ensure service standards are met or exceeded to achieve a high Net Promoter Score
  • Identify opportunities and products for revenue growth
  • Liaise with Grouse Mountain Sales and Marketing departments to ensure delivery of merchandise is consistent with brand
  • Work with Guest Services Manager to respond to all guest comments
  • Monitor market trends
  • Following forecasted labour budgets, controlling cost of goods, expenses and labour to keep in line with current and forecasted events
  • As a valued member of the management team, you may be required for duties within the department but outside of your regular role
  • Other duties as required

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position provides direct supervision to all Retail staff.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND ABILITIES

  • Business degree preferred or equivalent combination of training and experience required
  • 3-5 years proven experience in a management/supervisory role
  • Minimum 5 years retail experience, preferably in outdoor apparel, sporting goods, or tourism retail.
  • Experience buying summer and winter outdoor technical gear as well as tourism related merchandise
  • Experience analyzing and completing merchandise purchasing
  • Strong problem solving & decision-making skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a wide variety of staff and external contracts and brand reps
  • Strong skills with Word, Excel, Microsoft Office & POS systems
  • Understanding of SQL database reports and PowerBI reporting an asset
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including opening, closing, weekends and holidays
  • High energy, outgoing, approachable and a strong work ethic
  • Successful candidate must complete a criminal record check once offered the position. The check must be completed prior to the start date if you are 19 years and older. Grouse Mountain will assist you with the process.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Hours of Operation are weather dependant. Due to the nature of the business, this position requires flexibility in terms of your work schedule. A variety of work schedules may include a variety of start times, including shifts on weekends and statutory holidays. Shifts require standing for long periods of time, lifting, twisting, and other forms of manual tasks.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

Salary from $70,000 to $85,000 per year
