Role Description/Criteria St Padre Pio Catholic Primary School – Foundation Year Position: Part-time 0.79 FTE (5 days per week, 8:45am – 3:15pm)

Commencement: Tuesday, 27 January 2026 About Us St Padre Pio Catholic Primary School, Thornhill park, is opening its doors as a new Catholic foundation school in 2026. The Opportunity The successful candidates will bring experience in supporting children with complex needs and behaviours, demonstrating a strong commitment to ensuring every student is included, engaged, and empowered to succeed.We are looking for dynamic people who are suitably qualified and experienced within a primary school environment for an LSO role that will work collaboratively with other LSO staff, students, parents and teachers under the direction of the Learning Diversity Leader to meet the individual personal and learning needs of students with additional needs at the school. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide individual and small-group support to students with diverse and complex learning needs.
  • Assist teachers in implementing personalised learning adjustments and behaviour support strategies.
  • Build positive, respectful, and trusting relationships with students to promote wellbeing and engagement.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, families, and specialists to support holistic student development.
  • Contribute to the inclusive and faith-filled environment of our foundation school.

About You We are looking for applicants who are:

  • Passionate about supporting children with diverse needs, particularly students with complex behaviours.
  • Skilled in implementing practical support strategies in the classroom and playground.
  • Compassionate, patient, and committed to student wellbeing.
  • Flexible and able to adapt to the evolving needs of a foundation school.
  • A strong communicator and team player.
  • Experienced as a Learning Support Officer, Teacher Assistant, or in a similar role.
  • Holding relevant qualifications in education support (or actively working towards them preferred) - Certificate III / IV in Education Support or Disability Support

Requirements

  • Current Working With Children Check (WWCC - current as of 27/1/26);
  • Current National Police Check (current as of 27/1/26);
  • Commitment to the ethos and values of Catholic education;
  • Willingness to support the school’s mission as a faith-filled foundation community;

Applicants must have the ability to create and maintain positive relationships with staff, students and families within the Catholic school and faith communities, demonstrating Catholic ethos, vision and values.
