About the role

Mace combines construction expertise with consultancy to unlock potential in every person or project and redefine the boundaries of ambition. Our values shape the way we consult and define the people we want to join us on our journey.

The project: As Mace continues to expand its presence across Eastern Canada’s rail and transit sector, we are seeking an experienced Track Engineering Lead to provide senior technical leadership across a portfolio of complex rail and transit programmes.

Over the coming years, our teams will be supporting the development and delivery of large, multi‑disciplinary rail infrastructure programmes, including major linear works, stations, depots, systems interfaces, and phased delivery in dense urban and operational environments. This role offers the opportunity to shape how rail engineering is led, integrated, and assured across major programmes - ensuring solutions are safe, compliant, coordinated, and deliverable.

You will act as the senior engineering authority across multiple projects and programmes. You will set technical direction, establish best‑practice engineering and assurance approaches, and lead high‑performing, multi‑disciplinary engineering teams. You will be a trusted technical advisor to clients and stakeholders, bringing deep rail engineering expertise, sound professional judgement, and a strong understanding of engineering risk, systems integration, and assurance within complex rail environments.

If you are seeking a role where you can influence engineering outcomes at scale, lead senior technical discussions, and help define the future of rail delivery in Canada, we would welcome your interest.

You’ll be responsible for:

  • Proven senior leadership experience in rail engineering within major rail or infrastructure environments.
  • Strong experience operating within complex, multi‑disciplinary and multi‑stakeholder programmes, including public‑sector clients.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and coordinate engineering teams across multiple projects and delivery stages.
  • Deep understanding of engineering risk, technical assurance, systems integration, and constructability.
  • Proven ability to lead track engineering contributions within integrated railway systems, managing interfaces, risks, and assurance across signalling, civils, power, and operational systems.
  • Credibility to operate confidently at senior client, executive, and technical governance forums.
  • Clear accountability for engineering safety, standards compliance, and risk management within high‑risk infrastructure environments.

You’ll need to have:

  • Degree qualification in Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Membership of ICE, IMechE, PEng, or equivalent professional body, or demonstrable commitment to professional development.
  • Experience working across a range of delivery and governance models, including integrated client‑consultant environments.
  • A collaborative, solutions‑focused leadership style aligned with Mace’s consultative approach.
  • A passion for developing people, strengthening technical capability, and leaving a legacy across programmes and teams.
