An established Ontario boutique litigation practice is seeking an experienced lawyer to join on a flexible, project-by-project basis as an independent contractor. The practice is committed to providing interesting, high-quality litigation work in a collegial and professional environment.
About the Role
This opportunity is ideal for a lawyer seeking intellectually challenging litigation work with flexibility. The successful candidate will work directly with the principal lawyer on sophisticated civil and commercial litigation matters. This opportunity may be suitable for sole practitioners interested in augmenting their practice.
Responsibilities
Drafting pleadings, motion materials, factums and written submissions
Conducting legal research and drafting facta; Preparing for and attending examinations for discovery, motions, mediations and trials Assisting senior counsel in the preparation for and conduct of trials, hearings, arbitrations and other contested proceedings Reviewing documentary productions and preparing litigation strategy Communicating with clients, opposing counsel and experts Managing assigned litigation tasks independently while collaborating closely on strategy
Qualifications
Membership in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario
Strong civil litigation experience Excellent legal research, analytical and drafting skills Superior written and oral advocacy skills Ability to manage competing priorities and work independently Professionalism, sound judgment and meticulous attention to detail Experience in commercial litigation is preferred, although candidates with strong civil litigation backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
Working Arrangement
This is an independent contractor position with a flexible workload. Work can be completed remotely. There is no requirement to bring an existing client base.
Pay range and compensation package
Compensation: Competitive hourly rate, based on experience. To be discussed.
