Please note this position is located in Manning, Alberta, 6 hours north of Edmonton.
The Licensed Practical Nurse at Manning Community Health Centre in the town of Manning, Alberta is an integral member of the patient care team in a combined facility including Acute Care, Emergency. The Licensed Practical Nurse provides direct patient care and support functions consistent with the Licensed Practical Nurse Standards. The LPN is responsible to the Care Manager and under the direction and guidance of the Staff Nurse. Working in a combined facility in a rural community is an excellent opportunity to develop a broad knowledge base and solid nursing foundation.
The town of Manning is located on the banks of the beautiful Notikewin River in northern Alberta and is known as the "Land of the Mighty Moose". In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Remote Retention Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $3,000. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.

As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications
- Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program.
- Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA).
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

- Accountable for the nursing care provided within the knowledge and skills outlined by the legislation and the profession.
- Evidence of integrity, initiative and sound judgment as a professional

- Ability to provide teaching and emotional support to patient and family.
- Effectively and efficiently work independently and as a party of a team to provide patient care, contributing to case conferences, nursing care and discharge planning
- Accurately observe and assess patient conditions using knowledge of the disease process.
- Monitor, document, report and respond to changes in patient's physical, mental and/or emotional state.
- Transfer patients, move equipment, walk, bend and stand frequently during any shift.
- Provide thorough orientation for new staff members following established checklist.
- Maintain competency through continuous learning, education and experience.
- Must be able to work shift work.
- Must possess basic computer skills.
