Job Description
Graymont is seeking a bright and motivated lawyer with six to eight years of experience to join its experienced and collaborative in-house legal team, working in a remote/hybrid arrangement. The successful candidate will work closely with colleagues across North America, with regular travel to the Company’s head office in Richmond, BC or other Graymont locations. For travel efficiency, preferred home locations include:

  • United States - Pacific Northwest; Salt Lake City, UT; Las Vegas, NV; West Bend, WI; or State College, PA
  • Canada – Vancouver, BC; Toronto, ON; or Montreal, QC.

About the Role
Reporting to the Senior Legal Counsel, North America, this role covers a broad range of corporate and commercial matters including:

  • Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts, e.g., procurement, construction, leases and land purchases, supply, and sales
  • Advising on acquisitions, financings, and corporate governance matters
  • Managing Intellectual property matters. (A strong intellectual property background would be considered an asset.)
  • Managing litigation and coordinating with external legal counsel as needed
  • Ensuring compliance with local, state/provincial, and federal laws and regulations
  • Assisting with preparing and providing in-person training to employees on certain Graymont policies and legal issues

The successful candidate will act as a strategic partner to business and project teams, providing practical legal guidance and supporting the Company’s risk assessment and decision-making processes across multiple jurisdictions.

About You
The successful candidate will be a business-minded lawyer who combines sound legal judgement with a pragmatic approach to problem-solving. The individual will have a high degree of professionalism, ethics, and integrity; proven contract negotiation and drafting skills; demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines; ability to demonstrate eagerness and ability to learn industry, business, and operational matters; and excellent communication, collaboration, and relationship-building skills. Experience practising at a top tier law firm, combined with previous in-house experience, would make you the ideal candidate. While not required, fluency in French would be considered an asset for this role as well.

You must have a law degree from an accredited law school, and be a member of, or eligible for membership in, (and in good standing with) the bar/society of the state or province of your current residence.
