Required Abilities, Qualifications and Experience:
- Extensive academic training, professional preparation, and qualifications in teaching in all areas of this assignment.
- Knowledge of, and demonstrated application of, the Ministry of Education's current philosophy, teaching practices, and evaluation/assessment/reporting procedures as applied to all areas of this assignment.
- Knowledge of and demonstrated ability to implement teaching practices that align with the Professional Standards for BC Educators.
- Demonstrated knowledge of, experience teaching, and understanding of the Career Life Education 11 curriculum.
- English degree or major
- Experience teaching English at the Secondary School Level
- Demonstrated passion and commitment to engage students in exploring post-secondary options through Career Life Education
- Demonstrated ability to consistently incorporate a wide range of effective classroom management strategies that maintain the dignity of students with an emphasis on a proactive approach
- demonstrated experience with the UDL framework planning for access points and success for all learners
- demonstrated experience with the RTI framework to support student learning
- demonstrated experience in reading, contributing to, and fulfillment of Individual Education Plans
- demonstrated experience and continued commitment to honoring First Peoples Principles of Learning and the Indigenization of curriculum in Career Life Education and English at a secondary level
- demonstrated ability to work in a trauma-informed capacity
- An exemplary work ethic with proven ability to work as an effective team member
- Demonstrated sensitivity, awareness and understanding of adolescent development and enthusiasm for developing positive relationships with adolescents
- Proven ability organizational and time management skills, creative problem solving skills, effective team building skills and strong communication skills
- Willingness to work in a collaborative manner with staff, administration and parents
