Job description
The Learning Support Teacher is responsible for the leadership and supervision of the Student Support Services Program of the school. This teacher is expected to work in close harmony and collaboration with the Principals, the teaching team, the support staff, external support team, and government agencies to ensure the delivery of a comprehensive program as per the Ministry of Education guidelines. This teacher is responsible for ensuring the full implementation of the programs of the students with learning needs (SLN) registered with LRC, whether under an IEP, a Learning Support Plan, and/or Behavior Management.
This teacher assists classroom teachers, provides remediation support for students with learning needs (SLN). This may include the implementation of interactive programs and other skill-building programs needed to address learning gaps in a one-on-one or small group session.
Administrative Tasks and External Services
- Keeps tab of changes in ministry funding requirements or other related ministry information
- Ensures required documentation is present in each ministry designated file for students to be reported on 1701 documentation
- Ensures that the electronic files of the students are properly updated
- Ensures students are reported to the Ministry of Education by the required deadline dates
- Ensures supports and referrals are in place for students requiring additional technology and/or other program support (i.e. Special Education Technology BC, referrals to Provincial Resource Programs like Popard and Auditory Outreach Provincial Program and other outside agencies like MCFD, Fraser Health)
