Manager, Mental Health
Reports to: Superintendent of Education
Summary: As a key member of the Management Team, the Manage, Mental Health is responsible for providing leadership to the Mental Health team for the coordination of services in the District, the School Mental Health Ontario Strategy, initiatives, and services for children and youth with mental health and addictions. This position is also responsible for advising and updating the Senior Team on all related Mental Health programs and initiatives in compliance with relevant legislation, regulations, acts and policies of Superior-Greenstone District School Board.
JOB DESCRIPTION
1. RESPONSIBILITIES (This is not an exhaustive list)
a. Mental Health
-
Facilitate, operationalize and collaborate with School Mental Health Ontario staff around strategies, programs and resources for the Board.
-
Manage, supervise, train and support school Mental Health Workers, Child and Youth Workers and Attendance Councillors.
-
Work with staff, families and students in order to provide fast access and triage to high quality services.
-
Liaise and collaborate with Mental Health Leaders across the province on mental health initiatives to share learning, provide input on the development and implementation of provincial resources.
-
Consult, collaborate and work with system leaders in the Board as well as community partners, outside agencies and professionals to further develop, implement and communicate a comprehensive Mental Health and Addictions Strategy.

Update and conduct a Board SCAN and resource mapping to identify specific service delivery gaps in the area of mental health and addictions for students.
-
Provide early intervention in child and youth mental health and addictions needs.
-
Update and initiate protocols, programs and policies within mental health and addictions.
-
Facilitate, lead and implement intervention plans at the onset of all tragic events.
-
Coordinate the delivery of mental health awareness and literacy programming for a range of stakeholders within Board.
-
Monitor, prepare and plan reports on programs funded by the Ministry of Education.
b. Leadership
-
Lead departmental staff which includes hiring, training, coaching, motivating, developing and managing performance.
-
Prepare onboarding, training and professional development programs for new and current staff.
-
Develop and manage the departmental budget which includes anticipating budget variances, and recommendations to deal with same.
-
Participate in the development of short and long-term strategic plans, and develop and execute annual operational objectives and budgets.
-
Ensure the continuing quality of programs and service delivery.
-
Seek opportunities and as necessary, to coordinate efforts to secure alternative funding or cost-effective practices for departmental activities;
-
Ensure the appropriate collection, analysis and maintenance of information which is often complex and sensitive remains confidential.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
1. SKILL
Education/Experience
-
A Post Graduate Master's degree in social work, Psychology (Counselling) or Psychiatry or a combination of experience, education and training.
-
A minimum of five (5) years of progressive related experience in a unionized and non-unionized environment.
-
Demonstrated leadership in a team environment.
-
Clinical experience is required.
-
A registered member in good standing in their regulatory body [(i.e. the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW)].
-
Proficiency in computer skills such as Microsoft applications, e-mail, cloud-based applications and client management software.
Additional Competencies/Skills

Open to learning, sharing ideas and accepting feedback.

Strong planning and organizational skills with the ability to multitask and manage timelines.

Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, including presentation skills when required.

Take the initiative and make decisions based on judgement, facts and alternatives.

Foster collaborative relationships and provide excellent customer service to internal and external stakeholders.

Demand on energy as a result of developing relationships with and responding to multiple stakeholders, making presentations and juggling multiple and different areas of responsibility.

Regularly required to respond to/address difficult interactions with little or no notice.

Work does not require extended physical effort.
2. WORKING CONDITIONS
-
Most working hours are in a normal indoor working environment.
-
Occasionally exposed to difficult or demanding clientele.
-
Required to respond to emergencies and occasionally attend meetings outside normal business hours.
for crisis management situations.
- Occasionally required to travel to alternative Board locations.
