Working within the Planning & Development Services department and reporting to the Senior Planner, Development Planning, the Development Planner I plays a pivotal role in contributing to the Planning & Development Services initiatives of Parkland County. The Development Planner I is responsible for reviewing and making decisions related to residential and non-residential development permit applications in accordance with the County's Land Use Bylaw and other applicable legislation. The Development Planner I is responsible to respond to inquiries and provide accurate information to the County's development customer base.
The ideal candidate for this position will have the following:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Urban Planning, Architecture, Environmental Design or a related field.
- Membership with the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP), the Alberta Professional Planners Institute (APPI) or Alberta Development Officer’s Association (ADOA) is considered an asset.
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience and knowledge related to Land Use Bylaw applicable sections of the Municipal Government Act, and an understanding of the development permitting process.
- Strong working knowledge of development permit applications, land use planning practices and possess the demonstrated ability to analyse and evaluate complex challenges to form effective decisions.
- Strong customer service skills with the demonstrated ability to respond to and anticipate customer needs in a professional manner. Strong conflict resolution, active listening and communication skills are required.
- Ability to effectively balance competing and conflicting interests, application deadlines and work tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Requirements:
- Ability to primarily work in-person at Parkland County Centre – 53109A HWY 779, Parkland County, AB.
- A valid class 5 driver’s license and current, satisfactory driver’s abstract provided upon hire.
- A satisfactory Criminal Record Check is required upon hire, excluding candidates under the age of 18 and current Parkland County employees.
- Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.

A Starting Salary of:
$83,100 to $89,900 per year
Max Salary Potential:
$105,200 per year

Vacation entitlement starting at 3 weeks
