About the role

About the Role:
The Community Support Worker supports adults with diverse abilities to enhance independence, confidence, and quality of life through meaningful activities and community involvement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage clients in recreational, social, and community activities.
  • Support food preparation and promote safe food handling.
  • Assist with mobility and personal care as needed.
  • Develop and implement individualized support plans.
  • Collaborate with families, caregivers, and professionals.
  • Ensure safety, follow health and safety protocols, and use de-escalation skills when necessary.
  • Administer medications per policy.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERIENCE

  • Community or School Support Worker Certificate, a Diploma is an asset
  • Minimum one (1) year of related experience working with persons with cognitive, physical, and other diverse abilities with varying and complex needs
  • Or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES

  • Support individuals with diverse physical and cognitive abilities.
  • Plan and facilitate recreational and community inclusion activities.
  • Promote life skills development and provide personal care as needed.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment, including meal prep and housekeeping.
  • Manage challenging behaviours and crisis situations effectively.
  • Work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, confidentiality, and strong communication skills.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and positive working relationships.
  • Advocate for individuals with diverse abilities.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License (or equivalent) with a safe driving record.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting, transferring, and assisting individuals with mobility aids (training provided).
  • Completion or willingness to complete mandatory training (CPR-C, Mandt, Safe Food Handling, Medication Management, Anti-Bullying & Harassment, CLBC Privacy).
  • Clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search (cost reimbursed).
  • Union membership required (1.8% dues deduction).

PROGRAM: Mosaic Day Program

LOCATION: Merritt, BC

STATUS: Part-time

HOURS of WORK: 30 hours per week

SCHEDULE: Mon-Fri, Daytime schedule

REPORTS TO: Program Coordinator, Community Living Merritt

COMPENSATION: $25.95 - $29.76 per hour (Grid 10 as per collective agreement)

CLOSING ON: Open until a suitable candidate is found
