JOB SUMMARY
Reporting to the Manager, Live Broadcast Operations, the SB Simulcast Producer is responsible for the execution of the day-to-day production of the live simulcast signal covering Woodbine Mohawk Park’s standardbred racing. This role is required to: develop and execute daily rundowns for our live programming; direct all crew and commentators through the live execution of the rundown; advise, guide and direct all operators and hosts on specific elements required for the vision and execution of the rundown; produce video content as assigned ensuring the production quality expected of the WEG product; help train/coach members of the simulcast crew; be in contact with AGCO Officials/Racing/Wagering/Marketing departments to ensure their needs are met within the simulcast presentation and to keep things on time and ensure the correct information for those stakeholders is being broadcast; develop and maintain as broad a knowledge as possible of all of the positions and all of the equipment used in our production to deliver our simulcast product; lead the crew efficiently and effectively and take a collaborative approach, cultivating positive working relationships with the crew and internal and external stakeholders. Standardbred Producers also need to have the ability to back-fill in other positions on the crew if required and also must be able to back-fill on the Thoroughbred racing simulcast.
KEY ACCOUNTABILTIES

Development and execution of the daily simulcast rundown for our live product

Work-day leadership and management of the crew to execute delivery of the live simulcast product

Collaboration with Racing/Wagering/Marketing/AGCO officials to ensure delivery all requirements from/for those departments are met

Live-to-air, on the fly decision making surrounding production elements, order of information delivery, type of information delivery, making calls on crew issues and technical difficulties

High-pressure decision making – understanding every element and what it takes to get that element to air

The producer must be innovating and creating on a daily basis to find the best ways to deliver the information required on our simulcast signal

Reacting to live, on-the-fly, real-time events and creatively needing to figure out how to explain and display what is unfolding
-
Must have forethought and vision to envision an entire narrative for each and every race and then how to build that narrative for display ahead of time and then react to and change that narrative as it changes in the live-to-air environment

Producers are asked to contribute to budget planning via analyzing the needs of the production and advising on equipment needed to execute what is being asked for

Producers are also asked to manage absences on the crew and make the required decisions in order to deliver the product we’re being asked to deliver

The Producer is the leader in the room on the daily simulcast. The delivery of our live production on a live race day begins and ends with them.

The Producer is responsible for the direct daily supervision of their crew, the hosts and the Regulatory Broadcast Operators on a race day

They need to make decisions and collaborate with other leaders in other departments on the execution of the delivery of the live race day production

The Producer has direct responsibility for the delivery of the daily simulcast and therefore the customer’s/viewer’s experience is theirs
-
The Producer also deals with external stakeholders (racing participants, other broadcasters etc) who would also be considered guests
QUALIFICATIONS
- Advanced knowledge of horse racing
- Advanced knowledge of wagering and betting
- Advanced knowledge of live television production and live-to-air production techniques
- General knowledge of social media usage
- University or college degree/diploma in a field related to Broadcasting, Television or the equivalent in education and experience
- Volunteer or paid work experience with: a network or cable outlet, league or team broadcast or production unit or any video production team
- Working in horse racing in some capacity with some education/experience in television production
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
- Working 4 and 5 nights a week January – December unless racing is not scheduled or vacation is requested
- Ability to work on the Thoroughbred crew as needed (includes weekends)
