Description Effective July 1, 2026, the Department of Paediatrics, Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto and the Department of Critical Care Medicine at The Hospital for Sick Children, 555 University Avenue, Toronto, Ontario, an academic health science centre dedicated exclusively to children, affiliated with the University of Toronto, is recruiting a full-time permanent staff intensivist. The successful candidate will be eligible for a full-time clinical academic appointment at the University of Toronto at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor.

Dedicated exclusively to children and their families, SickKids is a world-renowned, state-of-the-art paediatric health care facility affiliated with the University of Toronto. The hospital is committed to ongoing learning and development and features a caring and supportive work environment. The Division of Pediatric Intensive Care is currently comprised of 12 Physicians and is responsible for the comprehensive care for all patients admitted to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, including mechanical support of the circulation.

Evidence of excellence in teaching, research and/or other scholarly work is required. Clinical and/or research expertise in transport medicine, respiratory failure, respiratory physiology and/or mechanical ventilation is preferred.

The successful candidate must have training and extensive clinical experience in Pediatric Intensive Care. The successful candidate must be committed to a career as an academic clinician. The successful candidate’s responsibilities include full-time equivalent clinical Pediatric Intensive Care practice, research, education, and administrative responsibilities as required by a Staff Physician in the Department of Critical Care Medicine. Clinical duties will include; being the Most Responsible Physician for critically ill children admitted to the PICU. This includes being responsible for all management decisions, assessments and engagement and consultations with other clinicians in the care of patients admitted to this unit.

Performing procedures as required while caring for critically ill children admitted to the PICU. Providing advice to referring physicians from SickKids catchment areas who call to seek help when caring for a critically ill child at their hospital. This includes providing management suggestions and dispatching our critical care transport team to retrieve these patients and transport them to SickKids. Providing an in-hospital consultation service to assist in the care of acutely unwell children admitted to SickKids via our Critical Care Response Team.

All candidates must be able to function proficiently in English, hold an MD, MBBS or equivalent thereto and be certified or eligible for certification by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or have comparable qualifications. Candidates must hold or be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. This position will remain open until filled.

Rank and salary ($266,000-$380,000) per annum (at time of writing); for 35 hours per week plus on call responsibilities, will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Periodic billing overage distributions may be received over and above base salary. Support for relocation expenses will be offered.
