Dietary Aide, Casual Part-Time

Food Services - ECU & ILTC, Welland Site

Hours of work: On call as needed

Union: SEIU-Service

Position Objective

Reporting to the Manager of Nutrition and Food Services, the successful candidate will work in a team based environment performing a variety of service related duties in the kitchen and/or nursing units. Duties include meal tray assembly, portioning foods, delivering meal carts, washing service ware, and basic food preparation. Duties also include delivery/retrieval of food trays, and delivering nourishment snacks. Shift rotations are subject to change.

Qualifications

o A minimum of Grade 12 education or equivalent

o Food Handlers Certificate required and knowledge of safe food handling

o Minimum 1 year experience in Long term care preferred

o Appropriate skills, knowledge and experience in the field of institutional, health care, restaurant or hospitality food service

o Dietary Food Service Workers Certificate considered an asset

o Familiarity with therapeutic diets

o Ability to perform repetitive motions and lift an average of 15 lbs

o Knowledge of proper body mechanics to meet the physical demands of the job for prolonged standing, walking, bending, and lifting

o Evidence of effective customer service, organizational, interpersonal, communication, judgment and decision-making skills

o Ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team

o Flexible, self-directed and able to work effectively with minimal supervision

o Must be available for all shifts, vacation replacement, sick time and paid holidays

o Consistent and regular attendance required

o Proficiency in both official languages (English & French) will be considered an asset
