What’s the role

Shell Canada is seeking a Boilermaker****to join the team at the Scotford Refinery.

This role reports to the Maintenance Team Lead (MTL). The Boilermaker is part of the Routine Maintenance Team and is responsible forperforming maintenance and troubleshooting activities on vessels, exchangers, and piping systems to support safe and reliable operations within the refinery or chemical plants. This is a field-based position, with daily work directed by the MTL to execute a combined maintenance schedule. Working closely with other craft disciplines, the team member carries out repairs and performs preventive maintenance to ensure high reliability and efficient equipment care.

The maintenance roles within the Refinery and Chemicals plants are represented by Unifor Local Union 530A. As such, successful candidates will be members of the Union upon hire. New employees will be provided with more details of the Collective Bargaining Agreement by a Union Representative during regular onboarding sessions.

Accountabilities:

  • Work****safely and adheres to Shell Scotford policies, Safe Work Practices (SWPs) and Life Saving rules

  • Maintain a high standard of workmanship, safety awareness and housekeeping under all conditions

  • Maintain process pip****ing, vessels and related equipment at Scotford

  • Troubleshoot cause of equipment problems and make repairs on pip****ing systems, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, heaters and filters in conjunction with routine and preventive maintenance functions

  • Ensure compliance to preventative maintenance activities, License to Operate and regulatory requirements

  • Support maintenance specialists in the development of preventive maintenance systems, spare parts program, maintenance practices and procedures, infrastructure (tools and equipment)

  • Provide job feedback into work orders for review by planners and schedulers

  • Enter work request with the needed information to effectively plan work

  • Perform work as requested on approved work orders, follow up and sign off

  • Work with Maintenance Technical Support Team, Operations and Engineering Services on identified repeat failures (Bad Actors), Root Cause Analysis and Reliability issues

  • Respond to overtime requests and participates in the site on-call process

  • Provide input into production unit shutdown work scope and overhaul issues. Supports the identification of work needing to be done in Turnaround (TA)

  • Understand and follows Maintenance Execution Work Process practices

  • Perform work in all business units across Scotford site as needed

  • Maintain self-motivation to complete work activities each day

  • Coordinate daily personal work activities to ensure weekly maintenance plan and operations objectives are achieved

  • Make decisions based upon maintenance guidelines, principles and trade practices

  • Ensure equipment is suitable for service when work activities are complete

  • Interface with vendors, when required by supporting trouble shooting and repair activities

  • Support Engineering and Specialist with maintaining****accurate records and drawings

  • Help****solve problems through troubleshooting and comprehension of process and operational systems and equipment

  • Look for new and innovative ways to improve the maintenance process at Scotford

  • Provide updates as work progresses to Job owner or Lead Craft and respective MTL

  • Work to solve delays and remove barriers but elevates issues when required

  • Manage Shell Open University (SOU) training requirements accordingly to ensure compliance Job Competency Profile (JCP) framework

What you bring

  • Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full-time basis for anyone other than the current employe****r

  • Minimum of Grade 12 diploma

  • Must have a valid Alberta Boilermaker Journeyman ticket, and Red Seal certified

  • Must possess a valid driver's license

  • At least 5+ years of maintenance experience in oil and gas facility

  • Experience in operating Arial work platforms (AWPs)

  • Must be willing to support the site through step-out opportunities, back up the MTL when required**, and** assist during turnarounds

  • Proficient in using maintenance software, including Microsoft Suite and SAP

  • Ability to climb ladders and stairs, work at heights and in confined spaces

  • Ability to lift and carry 20 kg from ground to waist level

  • Ability to work safely wearing a respirator or Self-contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA)

  • Willing to comply with Shell's drug-free and harassment-free work environment and comply with all safety policies and procedures

  • Ability to pass the preemployment process as a condition of employment for this position is successful completion of a pre-placement medical assessment of your fitness for duty, background check, driving record check and Pre-Site Access testing for alcohol and specified drugs

  • Must be willing to support and comply with company safety policies and initiatives

  • Must be willing to travel occasionally, work overtime or outside regular business hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, and be available for emergency callouts

  • Must be willing to work outdoors in inclement weather
