The LRT Expansion and Renewal Branch is at the forefront of shaping Edmonton's transit landscape. This team is accountable for the meticulous planning, design, and delivery of all LRT infrastructure and significant capital expansion projects. We transform conceptual visions into tangible reality through sustained engagement with our business partners, delivering exceptional project management and technical services. The success of our work is significantly amplified by the deep knowledge and strong relationships we cultivate with industry and business partners.

Reporting to the Director, LRT Infrastructure Projects, the General Supervisor, LRT Facilities and Renewal is a pivotal role. You will guide and mentor a team of program and project managers, alongside internal technical subject matter experts. Your leadership is essential to ensure that every project is executed efficiently, meeting all deadlines, budget requirements, and scope objectives.

What will you do?

  • Lead, guide and support LRT related expansion and renewal projects through all phases of the Project Development and Delivery Model (PDDM) life cycle (planning, design, construction, commissioning, operations, and maintenance)
  • Maintain effective communication with senior management and key partners on projects status, issues and milestones
  • Ensure best practices are being followed in the engineering design, construction and commissioning of LRT and transit facilities (along LRT alignment)
  • Focus on the team by building a respectful workplace culture through a values-based influencer approach and working collaboratively
  • Continue to develop a team organization to meet increasing demands and administer an annual operating budget
  • Participate in the mediation of complex issues involving internal staff and external partners including the public, contractors and consultants. Effectively manage and foresee risks before they arise.
  • Anticipate business opportunities, influence policy, planning and initiatives, and foster a culture of accountability through performance measurement
  • Build new and innovative collaborative partnerships with external agencies, orders of government, community organizations, and internal departments and branches

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge, training and/or education in Engineering or other related disciplines
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in good standing and registered as practicing with APEGA. Applicants in a different Canadian jurisdiction eligible for Inter-Provincial Mobility (IPMA) with APEGA may be considered
  • Experience in a leadership role(s) within a large and complex organization
  • Experience in the delivery of transit projects and/or major projects in an urban environment
  • Advanced knowledge and experience in program/project management
  • Experience managing and collaborating with external consultants
  • Combinations of education and experience may be considered

Assets:

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification, professional designation or coursework/training in project management, financial management, public administration, change management, or other leadership training
    Master’s Degree in a related field

  • Strong political acumen, strategic planning, issue resolution and decision-making skills
  • Proven ability to present complex ideas to diverse audiences, build positive relationships and establish clear expectations

Conditions of Employment and Work Environment:

-1 permanent, full-time position

  • Hours of Work: 36.9 hours per week, Monday - Friday. This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite
  • Salary: (Annually) $123,938.39 - $154,920.88
  • Hire is dependent on Criminal Information Check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton. There may be a cost associated with this requirement
