About the role
The successful applicant will provide engineering and consulting support on projects for North American and international clients. The majority of the work is related to engineering studies, design and earthworks construction for proposed and existing tailings and mine waste management facilities, water management facilities and mine closure related projects. The successful applicant would be based in Vancouver, Calgary, Saskatoon, or Toronto, and work on projects in Canada and abroad as part of a larger team of engineers and scientists based in our Canadian offices, with opportunities to collaborate with SRK’s global team. The successful applicant will have a keen interest in pursuing a career in geotechnical engineering as it applies to the mining industry, a willingness to travel to remote locations, a strong desire to learn and enthusiasm for working on a team.
The position involves the following range of typical activities:

Supporting or leading geotechnical engineering projects, related to tailings and mine waste projects at all phases of the mine life, including construction, operations, or closure and reclamation.

Supporting or leading geotechnical site investigations and instrumentation programs.

Providing on-site construction supervision for projects at mine sites.

Geotechnical data management, analysis and reporting.
-
Performing geotechnical analyses and design.

Preparing, or assisting in the preparation of, drawings, technical reports and memos.

Participating in multi-disciplinary design teams with hydrotechnical, hydrogeological, geochemical, and civil disciplines.

Undergraduate degree in geotechnical, geological, environmental or civil engineering.

0 to 6 years of engineering experience.

Eligibility for professional registration (EIT/GIT or PEng/PGeo).

Valid driver’s license and a good driving record.
-
Commitment to conducting work safely.
-
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral.
-
A positive and enthusiastic attitude, with a willingness to take on new challenges.

Willingness to travel locally, nationally and possibly internationally.
-
Ability to work independently, onsite, outside and in remote locations.

Ability to work long hours in the field, tolerating variable weather conditions.
Valuable Skills:
- Experience with engineering software applications is an asset (e.g., Geostudio, Rocscience, AutoCAD, Muk3D).
- Experience with data science and coding (Python) is an asset.
- Experience with soil logging or soil testing is an asset.
- Construction QA/QC or general construction experience.
- Graduate degrees in a related field are considered an asset.
This position involves working in multi-disciplinary teams on a range of projects and may include international travel.
