As a Technical Writer, you will bridge the gap between complex technical concepts and clear, user-friendly documentation. You will collaborate closely with various stakeholders (i.e. application/software developers, analytics team, product owners, others) to create high-quality content to create content that meets both technical and regulatory standards. You will play a key role in ensuring that both internal teams and external users can understand and effectively use the software. This position requires strong writing skills, a solid understanding of software development practices, and the ability to quickly grasp new technologies. Your documentation will support internal development teams, third-party vendors, and financial partners by providing detailed API references, integration guides, system architecture overviews, and compliance related technical documentation. A strong understanding of financial systems, data privacy, and secure coding practices are essential.
K ey Responsibilities & Accountabilities
- Create and maintain technical documentation for software products, APIs, SDKs, and developer tools.
- Work with engineering teams to understand product functionality and translate it into clear, concise documentation.
- Develop tutorials, code samples, and how-to guides to support developer onboarding and integration.
- Edit and proofread content for clarity, consistency, and technical accuracy.
- Organize documentation in a structured, searchable, and user-friendly format.
- Participate in product design and review meetings to stay informed about upcoming features and changes.
- Translate complex financial and technical concepts into clear, user-friendly content for developers and stakeholders.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure documentation aligns with regulatory and security standards (e.g., PCI DSS, OSFI, The ACT, PIPEDA).
- Create onboarding materials, developer portals, and integration playbooks for internal and external partners.
- Maintain version control and documentation updates in sync with software release cycles.
- Ensure all documentation supports audit readiness and compliance reporting.
E ssential Qualifications
- 2 – 4 years’ experience as a technical writer in a complex environment.
- Proven experience as a technical writer in a software development or fintech environment.
- Familiarity with banking systems, financial APIs, and secure software development practices.
- Strong understanding of regulatory requirements in the financial industry.
- Proficiency with documentation tools such as Markdown, Git, Swagger/OpenAPI.
- Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, compliance-driven environment.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple documentation projects simultaneously.
- Effective communication skills to present data insights to stakeholders clearly.
- Assist in training new team members to department standards.
- Strong knowledge of Access Credit Union’s products and services.
- Advanced knowledge of risk management within the financial industry.
