Job Summary
Housing and Campus Connections of Dalhousie University consists of Residence Operations, Property Management for College Street, Henry Street and Peter Green Hall properties, Conference Services, Off-Campus Housing, University Food Services, DalCard Business Operations and UPass, and other ancillary activities. Reporting to the Director, Events and Conference Services (ECS), the Manager, Operations will ensure 24/7 end-to-end operational continuity, revenue optimization, service excellence, and risk management across summer accommodations, conferences, and major contracted events.
Key Responsibilities

Translate strategic direction into executable operational plans that achieve revenue, occupancy, and service quality targets. Make real‑time operational decisions to mitigate risk, address service disruptions, and ensure business continuity.

Build and maintain effective working relationships with internal partners and external agencies. Directly manage bargaining unit staff including recruitment, onboarding, training, and staffing.

Manage operational budgets, revenue tracking, and financial reconciliation related to ECS activities. Monitor financial performance and recommend corrective actions or growth strategies.

Ensure operational decisions support revenue optimization while balancing service quality and cost control. Identify and support opportunities for new or expanded ECS revenue streams.

Serve as the functional system expert and subject‑matter expert for the ECS’s booking and event management system. Ensure system integrity, data accuracy, and alignment with operational and reporting requirements.

Lead response to critical incidents, service failures, or reputational risk situations. Ensure timely resolution, documentation, and escalation as required.
Note
Due to operational requirements, the successful applicant is required to work in-person on campus.
This position requires the incumbent to work outside of usual business hours and provide rotating on-call support as part of an on-call team for urgent client and facility issues during the conference season (May to August inclusive). This includes carrying an on-call cell phone and answering calls from the clients and the respective suppliers to manage the contract effectively. It also includes at times coming on site to resolve issues, and providing manager‑level authority during after‑hours incidents.
Required Qualifications
-
Undergraduate degree in Business, Hospitality, Event Management, or related discipline plus approximately five years’ progressive operational experience (or equivalent combination of training and experience).

Demonstrated experience making independent operational decisions, and managing complex operations with multiple priorities and revenue and reputational impact.

Previous supervisory experience with the proven ability to lead teams in a high-volume, deadline driven environment.

Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with proven financial, risk management, and systems aptitude.

Excellent interpersonal, client service, and communication (written, verbal and presentation) skills, including strong negotiation skills.

Previous experience supervising unionized staff.

Experience with KX and/or Banner.
