Instructional Designer (Contractor)
About the role
The Municipal Group of Companies, based in Bedford Nova Scotia, is a large, diversified organization engaged in all major aspects of the heavy civil construction, environmental services, and transportation and courier services within the Atlantic Provinces. We are currently seeking an Instructional Designer contractor to join our training department. This will be a remote position.
Job Summary:
Reporting to the Manager of Program Development, the Instructional Designer is responsible for the design and development of effective training programs for the Municipal Group of Companies. The designer will work closely with other members of the training department, subject matter experts, and other staff as needed. Development will be done using Articulate Storyline 360, PowerPoint, and other platforms as necessary (Word, Canva, etc.). Additional tasks include courseware testing, learning materials development, as well as the updating and maintenance of existing learning materials.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Apply adult education principles to create effective learning materials
Follow development process for creation of new courseware / updating of existing courseware
Conduct needs assessment with stakeholders and subject matter experts
Identify, research, and source required content (information / media)
Prepare scripts for professional voiceover recording as needed
Provide regular status updates on course completion timelines
Gather and implement review feedback from stakeholders
Test authored courseware on standard available delivery platforms (PC & Mobile)
Identify and track required changes / improvements / fixes
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, and Experience:
Storyline 360 course authoring experience
PowerPoint course authoring experience
Effective written and verbal communication
Ability to work as part of a team, both in-person (if location allows) and remotely
Ability to manage deadlines and prioritize in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
Strong analytical background and problem-solving skills
High level of integrity and professionalism
