We're looking for a Data Analytics Specialist to join the Data Science Deployment and Support Unit, a collaborative and innovative team that uses data science, machine learning, code and visual storytelling to improve services for children, families, and communities across Ontario.

About the job

As a Data Analytics Specialist, you'll work on complex, high-impact data science projects in a collaborative, cross-functional environment. You will:

  • Develop and maintain data pipelines to transform structured and unstructured data into usable formats

  • Create compelling data visualizations and interactive dashboards to communicate findings to decision-makers

  • Present complex analytical results in clear, accessible language for non-technical stakeholders

  • Research and develop new tools, techniques, and approaches to improve our analytics capabilities

  • Collaborate with colleagues across policy, program, and technology teams to align data efforts with real-world service delivery

  • Support the design, building and coding of machine learning models and statistical algorithms to generate actionable insights

  • Contribute to the development of integrated datasets and longitudinal client journeys to inform program effectiveness and integration

What you bring to the team

Technical and Analytical Expertise:

You have:

  • A background in data science, statistics, computer science, mathematics, economics or a related field
  • Experience using programming languages such as Python, R, SQL, or similar to clean, transform, analyze data and/or develop applications, libraries or software packages.
  • Knowledge of data pipelines, machine learning models, and predictive analytics techniques
  • Familiarity with large and complex datasets, including unstructured data
  • Experience with cloud-based analytics platforms such as Databricks or RStudio
  • The ability to develop dashboards and visualizations that tell compelling, data-driven stories

Problem-Solving and Communication Skills

  • The ability to communicate technical concepts clearly and effectively to non-technical audiences
  • Ask thoughtful questions, explore complex problems, and use data to support your ideas
  • Think creatively and are open to new ways of solving challenges
  • Experience delivering concise presentations, reports, or visual tools for diverse stakeholders
  • A collaborative mindset and the ability to build strong relationships across teams

You have:

  • Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced, evolving environment
  • Shown interest in learning Agile methodologies and how data fits into the software development process
